System Engineer, Robotics Engineering

Job Description

Facebook is seeking a Systems Engineer experienced in the design and operations of Robotics solutions to join our Site Engineering Robotics Team. This person will be responsible for the design and development of robotics solutions to automate and scale Facebooks data center infrastructure operations.

System Engineer, Robotics Engineering Responsibilities

* Build strong partnership with internal infrastructure partners to understand their requirements, and identify ways that robotics could improve their operations.

* Transfer customer requirements to product requirements. Identify the key enabling technologies, and make the tradeoffs between software and hardware solutions, and build versus buy.

* Lead proof-of-concept projects to evaluate the technologies and subsystems. Build and test prototypes to ensure feasibility and ability of robotics solutions to improve operations.

* Develop systems architecture for robotic systems including robot manipulator.

* Lead robotic manipulator integration in mobile robotic platforms.

* Lead the implementation of controllers for robotic manipulator.

* Lead the ROS development for High dimensional path-planning and Perception.

* Create engineering development plans and work with the internal engineering team and technology partners to deliver robotics solutions.

* Provide technical due diligence for internal engineering and partner development projects.

* Create and maintain product and technology roadmaps to drive innovation.

* Develop strong industry relationships with other data center peers and organizations to remain current on industry trends and future directions.

* Ability to travel domestically and internationally to data center sites for engineering studies, robotics systems audits, and collaborations with local subject matter experts.

Minimum Qualifications

* BS degree in Robotics, Computer Engineering, EECS, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

* Minimum of eight (8) years professional experience in critical systems design, system development, R&D development, and/or field operations

* Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in developing robotic solutions in ROS

* Experienced with integration or implementation of robotic algorithms, e.g.: Path-planning for higher dimensional systems Perception/mapping systems Estimation algorithms Control

* Experience managing hardware and software development, or rapid prototyping projects

* Experience developing systems or technologies with partners

* Familiar with supply chain management process, operational cost and ROI estimation process

* Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills

* Effective presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Experience working cross-disciplinary and mentor best practices and team members

Preferred Qualifications

* MS degree or above in a relevant field.

* Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in developing robotic solutions in ROS.

* Skilled with implementation of robotic algorithms, e.g.: Path-planning for higher dimensional systems, Perception/mapping systems, Estimation algorithms, Control.

* Hands-on systems and product engineering and architecture experience in the overall product life cycle, include: product definition, requirements understanding, product SPEC development, hardware and software solution design, system integration, quality assurance, NPI intro and field deployment, operational process design, field service and warranty management, etc.

* Understanding of overall systems interactions of hardware, software, firmware, frameworks, network and systems in terms of latencies and interfaces.

* Proven success in large and complex system design experience, including Robotics, Industrial automation, consumer electronics, etc.

* Working knowledge of the data center technology stack: computer, network, storage, and software architectures.
