The Scientist position will be part of the Upstream Scale-up Group in Devens, MA to scale-up and execute upstream processes for late-stage biologics in BMSs robust pipeline. This role will work closely with the downstream team, analytical team, as well as with manufacturing sites within the BMS network to deliver robust, scalable, and economical processes for late-stage clinical and commercial supply. This position will report to the Associate Director of Pilot Plant Network and will be based in Devens, MA.
Key Responsibilities
* Use scientific expertise to provide solutions to a broad range of difficult problems.
* Introduce, evaluate, and implement innovative new process technologies to support platform evolution.
* Take a part in daily operations in the Upstream Scale-up Lab, including bioreactor fill/harvest, inoculation, daily sampling, feeding, and monitoring/troubleshooting
* Prepare/review technical documents including campaign summary reports, batch records, and SOPs.
* Maintain a safe work environment in the Scale-up lab
* Participate in cross-functional teams to support process investigations, process development, scale-up, and tech transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing
* Collaborate with partner Downstream Scale-up Lab and Upstream PD to ensure smooth process and material transfer
* Track performance of Scale-up data against development scale to aid PD teams in the development of scale-down models
Qualifications
* B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related biologics fields
* Minimum 5 years of experience in Process Development or related field
* Strong knowledge of upstream process development and unit operations, including mammalian cell culture and bioreactors is required.
* Working knowledge of cGMP and prior experience in single-use manufacturing and automation are preferred.
* Knowledge of downstream processing
* Knowledge of analytical techniques such as HPLC, CE, or others related to glycoprotein attributes
* Knowledge of statistics, design of experiment, and data analysis
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Capability for travel up to 10-20%
