The Exploratory Science Center (MESC) Cambridge, a wholly-owned subsidiary, is focused on driving early discovery research. We are seeking an innovative protein biochemist or bioconjugation chemist to join the Exploratory Science Center (MESC) in Cambridge, MA.

The successful candidate will become part of a lab-based, creative and fast-paced team that will discover novel biology and invent impactful technologies targeting oncology, inflammation, cardiovascular, metabolism and neuroscience.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

* Cloning, expression, and purification of proteins including antigens, immunoglobulins, antibody fragments and other modalities
* Multi-step protein purification including tag-less purification
* Develop bio-conjugation technologies and optimize, purify bio-conjugates for in vitro and in vivo evaluation
* Functional and biophysical characterization of proteins and bio-conjugates
* Leverage advances in synthesis and delivery technologies of complex large molecules to impact multiple ESC programs
* Help identify and validate new targets, which may include collaborative engagement with the external scientific community and leadership of early drug discovery projects
* Act as a leader from the bench, driving program, strategy and execution
* The candidate will be part of a cross-functional team contributing to the strategic direction of research programs across multiple therapeutic modalities
* Provide scientific mentoring and technical training of team members as appropriate

Qualifications

Education:

* PhD in protein biochemistry, chemical biology, macromolecular chemistry or related discipline
* Minimum of 0 to 3 experience after PhD

Required Experience:

* Strong background in protein purification, protein chemistry and conjugation with small molecules and/or peptides
* Experience with antibody and antibody fragments, bioconjugates and characterization of proteins and conjugates
* Team player with effective written and oral communication skills
* Strong publication record

Preferred Experience:

* Execution of synthetic chemistry across a wide range of chemical modalities such as small molecules, peptides, carbohydrates or nucleotides as well as payloads and linkers for conjugates
* Experience of in vitro translation/transcription and unnatural amino acid incorporation would be a plus
