Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Compensation, the Compensation Consultant will be responsible for administering the organization's compensation programs and processes across the organization. The incumbent will provide support to People & Culture Business Partners and business leaders to identify and address compensation issues and evangelize Consumers Energys compensation strategy. This position also represents the client's point-of-view in key corporate compensation initiatives and the corporate point-of-view with client groups.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide guidance to the business and develop creative solutions on a variety of total compensation issues including the setting of appropriate pay levels, base pay, and premium pay
* Perform deep analysis on effectiveness and competitiveness of existing compensation programs and models potential impact of alternatives
* Develop and deliver presentations about compensation programs to influence and educate senior level decision-makers
* Collaborate with the Compensation leadership team to execute strategic, companywide compensation decisions
* Partner with People & Culture Business Partners on compensation issues, and work on a variety of special compensation projects as needed
* Conduct job evaluations using market data and internal evaluation
* Provide context, interpretation and recommendations for results of standard compensation reports
* Respond to compensation questions from internal customers, and persuasively deliver recommendations to decision-makers
* Evaluate market and economic trends and help drive enhancement of various compensation program capabilities
* Provide analytical and technical support in the delivery of compensation programs. This includes the analysis of plan design alternatives, expense and implications, market compensation studies and external benchmarking.
* Partner with relevant stakeholders to ensure appropriate system and administration processes are in place to deliver compensation programs, including annual compensation activities.
* Use analytical rigor to interpret quantitative and qualitative information and be able to translate complex data in a straight-forward and concise manner.
* Develop effective working relationships with various internal and external resources (including legal, accounting/finance, payroll, etc.) to ensure that all actions, plans and programs pertaining to compensation comply with internal corporate governance guidelines and external regulatory requirements and reporting.
* Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

* Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
* Proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications with advanced Excel abilities to create complex formulas and queries

* Exceptional commitment to detail and accuracy in all levels of work
* Capacity to learn new skills and gain knowledge on an independent level

Education Requirements

* Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
* Masters degree in Human Resources or Business preferred.
* Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred

Work Experience Requirements

* Five (5) years of compensation consulting; 7 years of experience is preferred
* Experience as a compensation analyst is also preferred
* Vendor management experience is desirable

This role will be work-from-home until our leadership team has determined its safe to resume work in the office. At that time, this position will have flexibility to remain home-based, with travel to our headquarters in Jackson, MI (1-2 days a week on average) or as needed based on work demands.

Essential Functions

Conduct or participate in salary surveys, assist in the conducting of job analyses and recommending appropriate classifications and salary levels for existing and new classifications. Conduct a variety of research projects, prepares written reports as required. May make presentations on a variety of topics to employees or management staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, supervisors, employees and Human Resources team members/peers. Provides advice and counsel to clients and employees related to compensation practices and procedures.

Hours and Travel

Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite. Meet travel requirements of the position.
