Job Description

As a Product Development Chemist, you will be responsible for planning and managing product development projects with a focus on high performance durable topcoats. You will be formulating new or improved products for use in multiple protective and marine market segments.

Key Responsibilities:

* Formulates new or improved products with chemistries including polysiloxane, polyurethane and polyaspartic (primarily 1K and 2K, solvent-based) with end uses in multiple Protective and Marine market segments.
* Ability to work with manager in setting SMART project goals and timelines.
* Lead independent projects or portions of larger project. Provides innovative technical solutions to challenging problems by planning and executing specific phases of a project.

* Responsible for the design, testing, application, and analysis/evaluation of results that will lead to successful product commercialization.
* Develops understanding of fundamental principles and root cause analysis. Uses these principles to design experiments and business process improvement tools that effectively lead to problem solving.

* Share ancillary duties such as equipment maintenance and calibration, ordering raw materials and lab supplies, competitor benchmarking and other testing, and other support duties as needed.
* Will also be involved with production scale-up, launches, and maintenance of product line. Will assist in manufacturing and field concerns through problem solving and root cause analysis.
* Product launch, field support and meetings may necessitate some travel and overnight stays.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering is required.
* Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required.
* Formulating experience with solvent-based high performance coatings is preferred.
* Knowledge of common coating formula techniques and testing procedures as well as design of experiments principles is strongly preferred.
* Ability to search and interpret literature and is cognizant of competitor technology and intellectual property.
* Travel estimated to be less than 10%.
* Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
