Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a candidate with leadership skills to manage the Materials and Processes team within the Baltimore COE Hardware Engineering organization. This is a dual role encompassing both people leadership and technical performance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. He / she will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with the directors and managers of other engineering disciplines, program directors and program managers. The ideal candidate will also be able to champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.

This position is located in Linthicum, MD. This position will report to the section manager of Mechanical Analysis within Mechanical Technology and Design Services department, which flows up through BCOE Hardware Engineering. This position requires consistent onsite presence. Travel may be required, although expected to be minimal.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Leading and facilitating efficient completion of work requests within the Materials and Processes team and labs
* Employee engagement, performance management, career development, employee rewards and recognition, merit planning, and resolving personnel issues.
* Balancing employee needs with business goals
* Increasing engineering competencies through strategic hiring and employee skills development
* Manpower/staffing and resource assignment
* Technical risk assessment and mitigation
* Facilitate knowledge sharing and mentoring
* Analysis of tools, processes, and technologies needed to support strategic plans
* Maintain and ensure application of design processes and guidelines used by the department
* Lead or support department initiatives, recruiting, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, capital planning, and NCTA project leadership

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor rsquo;s degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering or Science degree with minimum 7 years of professional experience, inclusive of managerial experience or equivalent Master rsquo;s degree with minimum 5 years of professional experience inclusive of managerial experience.
* Demonstrated leadership of diverse and inclusive teams
* Experience as functional manager, integrated product team leader, and/or technical team leader
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work well within a team environment and adapt quickly to change
* Time management skills and a proven ability to follow through with commitments
* Basic understanding of selection of materials for electronic applications, manufacturing processes associated with metals joining, coatings, adhesives, or electronic packaging, materials characterization methods, failure analysis, and materials management/regulatory issues.
* This position requires US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

* Demonstrated success leading high performance teams as technical, integrated product team, and/or functional team leader
* Basic understanding of selection of materials for electronic applications, manufacturing processes associated with metals joining, coatings, adhesives, or electronic packaging, materials characterization methods, failure analysis, and materials management/regulatory issues.
* Experience supporting or leading root cause and corrective action efforts
* Experience leading a capital intensive laboratory within budget constraints
* Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
