Job Description: Folder Gluer Operator
The folder gluer operator will set-up operate and maintain folding and gluing equipment.
Perform all make readies and minor adjustments to produce folded cartons, sleeves, point of
sale displays and other packing containers as required. The folder gluer Operator will ensure
his crew adheres to all safety and quality standards as well as packaging requirements. The
Operator will be responsible for accurate labeling of outgoing products and accurate record
keeping of counts and versions. The Operator will perform all required preventative machine
maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly). The Operator will work with and assist the Maintenance
Technicians as needed on repairs or modifications. We are seeking Operators with folding and
gluing experience. We do offer an apprenticeship training program for the folder gluer operator
position.

Primary duties:

* Make ready, operate and maintain folder-gluer
* Identify, troubleshoot and correct product defects
* Read and understand job ticket specifications. Set and operate machine to published
* specifications
* Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on folder gluers
* Enter production data through keyboard interface
* Fold and glue various carton formats, from straight line to auto bottom and others
* Operate the folder gluer at the highest production speed while maintaining the highest
* quality products
* Utilize hot melt and cold glue application systems
* Operate label application equipment for security tags, labels and coupons
* Make ready, operate and maintain a tape applicator as needed
* Set-up camera recognition, barcode scanners and glue assist devices
* Have a good working knowledge of back fold equipment and functionality
* Other duties as assigned



Required Skills

General knowledge of the more complex bindery machines (i.e. fully automatic binding machines (perfect binders), multiple station collators and multiple folding units, either individually or combined) to perform the full range of standard and specialized folds of printed materials. Thorough knowledge of the set up, operating requirements, procedures, capabilities and limitations of one or more bindery machines to perform the full range of standard and specialized folding, collating and cutting of printed materials to complete a combined finishing product. Ability to read and interpret written work orders or other job specifications containing bindery requirements which indicate the number and sequence of machine operations required to complete the work and to maintain dimensional accuracy in accordance with instructions provided; independently makes decisions on the type of equipment to be used. Knowledge of the quality and machining requirements of various coated and uncoated types of paper stock. Skill in setting up and adjusting machines for finishing operations and to refine such adjustments for the weight, color, machinability and quality of paper stock being used and to prevent machining impressions on the printed materials. Must be able to calculate distances, clearances, and fits in combining machines. Skill in using the full range of standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain the functional accuracy and operating conditions of the bindery machines.
