Position Summary

This position is responsible for execution of all Mechanical Facility and Maintenance activities for the location.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures that facilities, equipment, and systems are maintained in dependable condition; that required repairs are rapidly completed; and that capital and noncapital projects are effectively managed for the mechanical trades. Directs the activities of teams of technical personnel, skilled craft workers, and contractors. Monitors and controls facility and maintenance expenses for the area.

Plans, schedules, and directs maintenance and facility projects in the mechanical area and schedules to ensure that all work is properly prioritized and completed in timely fashion at lowest possible costs. Constantly monitors departmental requirements and adjusts schedules and resources as required to accomplish critical tasks.

Responsible for fixed asset management. Ensures that all fixed assets are properly accounted for in company records. In cooperation with manufacturing management and senior staff, determines excess and obsolete equipment. Disposes of such equipment while obtaining best possible price from purchasers.

Responsible for applying proper and costeffective Preventative and PM techniques to ensure maximum allowable asset availability and uptime.

Provides leadership to assigned technical, craft, and utility personnel. Schedules and assigns personnel to effectively accomplish work.

Monitors and manages the activities of outside contractors. Prepares technical requests for proposals. Evaluates proposals; negotiates terms, conditions, and pricing; awards contracts to bidder providing best value to the company. Monitors and controls projects and budgets to prevent cost overruns.

Mechanical Team Lead for major projects such as equipment installation or movement, facility addition or modification. May retain external professional services to support project completion, obtain specialized knowledge, or to comply with codes and regulations.

Coordinates activities with Safety & Environmental management to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Interfaces with representatives of federal, state, and local regulatory agencies such as OSHA and TNRCC.

Acts as internal consultant to senior management on facilities and maintenance matters. Develops detailed recommendations on major projects and demonstrates commitment to continual improvement of organizational capabilities.

Maintains a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. Ensures that personnel are properly trained to perform assigned duties and compliance with all applicable company policies and governmental regulations.

Comply with all EHS rules and regulations and supervisory instructions.
Report all incidents including injuries, spills, fires, property damage, and near misses to their supervisor.

Experience & Education

2 Year Technical Degree in mechanical maintenance or fluid power; preferred but not required.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in technical trades, preferably mechanical.

Minimum of 5 years of experience managing facilities and maintenance activities in a complex manufacturing environment; preferably in the forge or steel manufacturing industries.

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of hydraulics and hydraulic control systems with ability to mentor skilled tradesmen in this trade discipline.

Must have the ability to work effectively with both company and contractor personnel

Must have excellent communication, presentation, and persuasion skills

Proven ability to prioritize and complete multiple work assignments in diverse fields with minimal direction and supervision

Broad knowledge of technical systems, machinery and equipment, applicable codes and regulations

Knowledge of facilities and maintenance management software, preferably Oracle based system.

Experience with electrical, mechanical and general maintenance skill sets.

Must be able to read, write, and understand English

Skills competency test required as part of onsite interview process.

Desired Skills

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Fluid Power or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university.

Minimum of 10 years in mechanical skilled trades experience either management or as a skilled tradesman with management experience.

Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience leading direct and indirect reports;

Minimum of 3 year of experience with Lean productions concepts.

Minimum of 3 years of experience with 6S management.
