Systems Engineer
Job Overview:
Varian Semiconductor is seeking an energetic, self-driven systems engineer with a strong background in high technology equipment & process to join its research and development team in Gloucester MA. You will be part of a multifunctional work environment, creating the next generation of systems for high demand market applications, with focus on sustaining competitive advantages with quick time to market, making disruptive breakthroughs, and IP generation. You will have the opportunity to evaluate and develop novel applications and tools relying on ion beam and plasma based technology. Your work will be involved in all aspects of Applied Materials R&D, especially ion implantation, reactive ion etching, thermal and plasma processing and material characterization.
Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be an independent, multitasking contributor with hands on experience that can analyze problems and define objectives, design and conduct independent experiments and tests, analyze and present results and recommendations for multiple projects to customers and managers.
* Responsible for designing and conducting experiments to develop doping/ implant/material modification and plasma processes and equipment for nanotechnology.
* Demonstrated abilities in leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, hardware and systems design, experimentation and equipment development are essential.
* Hands-on experience with advanced equipment development, qualification, sustaining and troubleshooting of plasma processes.
* Generation of technical reports, Intellectual Property and presentations.
* Responsible for making presentations at national/international conferences and customer sites.
* Willingness to travel up to 10%, both domestically and internationally.
Education/Experience:
Ph.D. preferred in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry or Engineering with experience in semiconductor devices and plasma processing as well as any or all of the following areas: CVD, RIE, ALD, PVD, ion implant, IBE, thermal processing.
A minimum of 5 years experience in plasma technology or a related field is required.
Must have strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
