Job Summary
Leverage your knowledge of US GAAP actuarial reporting and interest in emerging IFRS 17 reporting needs to support our transition, growing your knowledge of Farmers business to become a leader within the organization on IFRS 17 topics.
Essential Job Functions
Initiates, analyzes, recommends and implements appropriate revisions in actuarial methods and assumptions in areas with significant financial impact. Works independently to develop and implement appropriate solutions to actuarial issues. Acts as project lead where assigned, assigning project work, managing workflow and providing feedback to management to enable appropriate modifications to and timely completion of projects. Represents the Actuarial department through participation in, and/or coordination of inter-departmental meetings and committees. Prepares, interprets and communicates data and related formulae for management. Analyzes operations to recommend improvement for control and/or efficiency.
Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Actions
Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10-lbs. maximum and seeing.
Physical Environment
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required. Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Maintains continuing education requirements in order to sign public statements of actuarial opinion.
Experience Requirements
Five years of Life Insurance financial reporting actuarial experience; staff management experience ideal.
Special Skill Requirement
* Life insurance actuarial reporting experience required; US GAAP experience preferred and IFRS 17 knowledge a plus.
* Self-starter who can be an active contributor in building a new unit and navigating emerging IFRS 17 guidance.
* MG-ALFA experience preferred.
* Systems/programming interest and aptitude.
* Knowledge of Python, Perl, SAS or SQL a plus.
* Solid communication skills and experience translating actuarial concepts and financial results to multiple stakeholders.
* Candidate qualifications may be reviewed against the requirements for the associated levels of this position's core function. Salary grade will be based on selected candidates' experience and skills.
