Northrop Grumman is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic and diverse team environment in Lanham, Maryland
Responsibilities include the following:
* Develop new processes, improve existing manufacturing processes, and develop the required tooling and fixtures with an excellent team of experienced assembly mechanics, machinists, welders and engineers.
* Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the manufacturing environment.
* Develop efficient process flows and sequences of operations, optimized production area layouts, manage bills of materials, create detailed work instructions, process procedures and tooling requirements with emphasis on safety, foreign object elimination and equipment/system maintenance.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of new capital equipment for establishing expanded production processes.
* The ability to support multiple production shifts is required (first, second, third shifts, and weekends) based on the assignment and current and future production schedules.
* Develops, modifies, applies and maintains manufacturing systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product
* Collaborates with all engineering disciplines and manufacturing functions to ensure efficient production of the highest quality product
* Devises and implements methods and procedures for manufacturing, inspecting, testing and evaluating products and production equipment
* Designs and analyzes manufacturing and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment
* Performs statistical analysis to assess the performance of equipment, processes and functions
* Determines area of possible improvement and documents all required actions to improve the product/process
* Employee will participate in program start up duties including production readiness, design, drawing and process reviews
* Additionally, employee will be responsible for the creation of process planning work orders to direct the production for each piece of hardware that is produced
* Once hardware is on the production floor the employee will work with the floor operators to answer any questions and solve technical issues in real time
* Coordinate with all supporting functional areas in order to determine the best solution for the product to maintain the highest levels of quality
* Conduct briefings and technical meetings for top management and customer representatives
* The Manufacturing Engineer should have a demonstrated track record of working and communicating with upper management/customer representative as well as a self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervisor oversight.
Qualification
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience in a production/ manufacturing environment in an engineering capacity
- Have a strong understanding of SMT technology, and knowledge of how to work and operate SMT placement machines.
- Strong understanding of the Industry standards like J-STD_001, and NASA standards
- Understanding how to read drawings, and to be able to create comprehensive work instruction to allow manufacturing to build product
- U.S. Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor rsquo;s degree in a STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics) related field with a minimum of 5 years related engineering experience OR a Master rsquo;s degree in a STEM related field minimum of 3 years related engineering experience
- 3 years of spaceflight industry experience in electronic assembly, J-STD-001, or NASA-STD-8739-2.
- Experience dispositioning of non-conforming material, work plan review, manufacturing readiness review, and root cause/corrective action analysis
- Visual Basic Programming knowledge
- Gauge R amp;R working knowledge
- Experience with programming (Mycronics) SMT Equipment
