Job Summary

The successful candidate will be exposed to the many facets of construction, operation and maintenance of the Electrical Distribution System. If you enjoy the variety of challenging work outside of an office and want to develop communication, technical and mechanical abilities, the Groundman position may be an excellent starting point for a career with Dominion Energy. More specifically, the successful candidate will develop skills to prepare themselves for potential advancement in Line-work, Substation, Design or Dispatch areas. As a Groundman, the majority of the work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions and is considered heavy labor. Must be willing and able to work up to 300 hundred hours a year in overtime. Must be able to respond within one hour of a call for overtime. Specific Groundman functions include but are not limited to the following activities:

Providing tools, materials and supplies to journeyman linemen
Ensuring safety rules and regulations are observed on the worksite
Driving trucks and ensuring they are properly stocked and maintained
Preparing the equipment and worksite for effective completion of assignments
Operating various types of equipment used in the construction process (diggers, aerial devices, etc.)
Perform all duties, as assigned

The selected candidate must be 18 years of age at the time of application, must obtain a Class A CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL within 6 months of employment. Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.

The starting pay rate will be $20.12 per hour advancing progressively to $25.36 per hour after one year.

Upon completion of your pre-employment background and medical check, your first day of work will be at our Training Center in Chester, VA. You will attend Groundman training for a period of 4 weeks Dominion Energys expense.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
Ability to carry up to 60 pounds
Ability to work on ladders and hydraulic lifts
Ability to be on call and quickly respond for electrical restorations
Ability to learn how to operate construction equipment and use hand tools
Computer application aptitude
Ability to work within a physically demanding work environment
A strong driving record which will allow the candidate to obtain a commercial drivers license by the end of the fifth month of employment

Preferred Qualifications include:

Prefer Class A or Class B CDL Dominion will provide and pay for CDL training. Please check your local DMV web site for eligibility requirements.
Prefer Class A CDL permit
Prefer OSHA 10 or 30 certification
Prefer certification in CPR, First Aid or AED
Previous experience in working with mechanical or electrical concepts and applications
Background in the military is a plus
Background in construction or related work environments
Background in working outdoors

* Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Technical/Associates educations are preferred
