What you will do

In this vital role you will be joining the B6 Drug Product Pilot Plant Operations team within Manufacturing and Clinical Supply organization in Amgen Process Development (Thousand Oaks, CA). The groups mission is to leverage industry leading pilot plant capabilities for robust, efficient product commercialization, and to advance next generation process technologies to support Amgens drug product manufacturing network. This role is essential for Amgens success and it will be a key contributor to ensure we reliably supply medicines to our patients.
Associate Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Setup and operation of the fill/stoppering equipment to dispense drug product into glass or plastic containers
* Setup and operation of Lyophilizer
* Perform format change overs and prepare materials for setup
* Draft standard operating procedures for fillers
* Follow protocols and procedures and execute fill process study
* Drafts lab notebooks, reports etc
* Manage B6 pilot plant raw materials and assist in other activities related to pilot plant operations
* Assist in training other co-workers
* Apply fundamental scientific (biochemistry, biophysics, statistics, etc.) and engineering principles to resolve issues and evaluate effects of process improvements, equipment, scale, and raw materials
* Present the study results to management and product teams
* Perform tasks related to safety and compliance initiatives in the lab

Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree with 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry that includes elements of process development, process characterization, and technical transfers to manufacturing sites
* Knowledge of biopharmaceutical manufacturing or experience supporting GMP manufacturing operations
* Knowledge of, and hands-on experience with various drug product technologies related to fill-finish process (freeze-thaw, filtration, filling, isolators, lyophilization, visual inspection operations etc.)
* Curiosity and desire to learn
* Strong team player who can collaborate with colleagues on complex tasks
* Ability to follow procedures and execute characterization studies, and document the findings
* Ability to think critically, proactively anticipate problems and propose solutions
* Good verbal and written communication skills
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Life sciences or related discipline
Or
Associates degree and 4 years of Engineering and/or Operations experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 6 years of Engineering and/or Operations experience
