Work location is flexible if approved by the Company except that position may not be performed remotely from Colorado.

The Principal Software Systems Engineer will make vital contributions to the New Product Development (NPD) pipeline and transform patient care through innovation. They are responsible for working with our NPD teams to design and develop product software for use in cutting edge medical devices and associated capital equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Architect software and electrical designs and requirements of highly complex medical capital modules
* Lead the creation and implementation of interface control specifications for connected electromechanical modules.
* Lead the integration of subsystems in accordance with program requirements.
* Partner with external product development / manufacturing organizations in defining requirements, executing electronic and software subsystems, and launching new products.
* Manage system and subsystem requirements including definition, decomposition, analysis, and trace management to ensure clear and unambiguous design specifications.
* Design and develop embedded product software to integrate with mechanical, electrical, and distributed computing systems.
* Develop test tools to test product software in an integrated environment.
* Ensure modules conform to Industry Standards for Medical Device Software (IEC 62304)
* Mentor junior members of the engineering staff to expand design team abilities and establish good working practices.

Qualifications
* Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related degree is required; advanced degree preferred
* Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience including software architecture in new product development is required
* Experience within a medical device and related external standards such as IEC 62366 and IEC 61508 is required
* Deep understanding of various embedded/system software design tools, operating systems and programming languages is required (e.g. Jira, Jama, Linux, QNX, Qt, C/C++/C, JSON-RPC, Python, etc.) is required.
* Proven experience with embedded electrical and/or software design is required.
* Experience developing embedded software systems in C++ is required
* Experience with Systems Engineering activities: requirements management, requirements development, and verification (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Integrity, JAMA, etc.) is required
* Demonstrated ability working with system-level tools and processes used for requirements management, risk management, issue tracking, and test automation is required
* Creation and management of interface control specifications for systems including electrical, software, and mechanical requirements is required
* Demonstrated ability working across subject areas with internal and external partners is required
* Strong collaboration, proven technical leadership capabilities, and conflict resolution skills is required
* Demonstrated ability working with secure boot and embedded system security development is preferred
* Experience with Distributed Data Services (DDS), e.g. (RTI Connext, OpenDDS, MQTT, or similar distributed data sharing libraries) is preferred
* Experience with protocol connectivity over Ethernet Networks, LAN, WAN, Cloud is preferred
* Experience debugging embedded hardware systems is preferred
* Experience developing Qt applications and/or Qt QML plugs is preferred
* Requires up to 25% travel, domestic and international travel, is required
