Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Engineer
Job Purpose:
Develops, implements and monitors company environmental, health and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. Conducts training in emergency response, hazardous material handling, industrial hygiene, life safety and ergonomic compliance-related activities. Recommends corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist. Provides technical assistance to management and engineering staffs as needed regarding compliance requirements for OSHA, EPA, DOT, ADEM and other governmental regulatory agencies that may apply to new processes, equipment or materials to be introduced in plant operations. May have a role in the administration of the worker's compensation program and the implementation of workplace ergonomics and program solutions. Interface professionally with representatives of governmental regulatory agencies, local emergency response organizations and various external and internal compliance auditors. Responsible for the administration and retention of all EH&S records in Huntsville.
Nature of Duties:
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overseeing daily environmental activities at the Huntsville facility
Overseeing proper handling of hazardous waste operations
Maintaining requirements of air quality, water quality and storm water discharge permits
Comply or enforce with training requirements of employees, specific to the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) 40 and ADEM Administrative code 14, relating to protection of the environment
Develop and maintain Environmental procedures to establish continuity and uniformity relating to environmental issues and compliance requirements for Huntsville operations
Develop and/or maintain procedures which meet the requirements of Sanmina and SCI Global ISO 14001 Certification
Develop and/or maintain, implement and manage the Environmental Management System
Continual probing for EHS deficiencies and opportunities for process improvement to promote compliance
Interaction with regulatory agencies, as required
HEALTH RESPONSIBILITIES:
Re-establish and drive First Aid and EMT programs in the Huntsville facility
Monitor industrial hygiene including, but not limited to: lead, noise, mold and VOC's
Ergonomic evaluation of production and office areas
Assess, implement and monitor reasonable accommodations for compliance to requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Assess and suggest Wellness programs (investigate, justify and implement, when approved)
Develop and/or maintain, and manage implementation of health and safety programs to promote employee workforce compliance
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess and ensure compliance to regulations as listed in Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 29 (Labor)
Report accident investigation properly and drive accident prevention
Liaison to management for employee safety concerns and issues
Coordinate and facilitate a Safety Committee for the Huntsville facility
Network with other local companies for innovative safety protocols
Maintain and enhance procedures which establish continuity and uniformity relating to safety issues
Lead in enforcing a safe working environment for all operations
Familiarity with the Workers Compensation process and get involved as needed
Implement and manage the emergency response contingency plan for the Huntsville facility
Interact with regulatory agencies, as required
Education/Experience:
US Citizenship is required
Bachelor degree preferably in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or Environmental Science or related educational background
5+ years experience as an Environment Health and Safety Engineer, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Must have current knowledge of both environmental and health & safety regulations at the federal, state, and local environmental levels
Experienced and knowledgeable in ensuring compliance with OSHA, RCRA, DOT, EPA and other EHS related governmental requirements as well as ISO 14001 environmental management standards
Certified in Hazwoper- Hazardous Waste Operations, preferred
Certified in Emergency Response, preferred
Certified as a Radiation Safety Officer, preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially with Excel spreadsheets and presentation software
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
