The Analytical Chemist in our Analytical and Measurement Sciences group will be responsible for all aspects of development, validation, and implementation of methods for new and existing products within Ingredion. The incumbent should have a strong understanding of the chemistry, rheology, and structure-function relationship of starch, proteins, and hydrocolloids. Additionally, it would be beneficial to have practical knowledge of statistics related to method development and validation.
Core Responsibilities:
Product and Process Support
* Manage projects to develop, validate, and implement new testing methods for biopolymers, mainly starches, flours, sweeteners, gums, and proteins.
* Assist New Product Development teams in structural and functional characterization of materials and assignment of appropriate in-process and quality control methods
* Routinely troubleshoot issues in testing with all internal and external customers.
Measurement Innovation and New Technologies Investigation
* Investigate new measurement technologies to improve current product manufacture, particularly online and inline process analytical technologies.
* Keep up-to-date on advances in measurement systems through open sources.
* Make recommendations for implementation of new measurement systems supported by experimental data.
* Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement new testing methods in R&D and Manufacturing
* Write reports and effectively communicate results to project teams and stakeholders
* Develop industry relationships and network within the professional organizations
Qualified Candidates will have:
* BS degree with 5+ or MS with 3+ years of experience in Cereal Science, Chemistry, Material or Food Science.
* Strong background and experience in carbohydrate and protein chemistry and structure-function relationship of these materials as it relates to food applications is highly desired.
* Experience with rheology and vibrational spectroscopy. Familiarity with chromatography, NMR spectroscopy, SDS page, and thermal analysis techniques is desirable.
* Experience with method development and practical knowledge of statistics related to method development and validation. Six sigma training is a plus.
* Critical analytical thinking and problem- solving capabilities are a must.
* Ability to offer new ideas and think out of the box and willingness to continuously learn and stay up to date with current science trends
* Experience with experimental design, statistical data analysis, and interpretation of results is highly preferred.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical reports and deliver technical presentations.
* Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills
* Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and adapt appropriately to shifting priorities.
* Demonstrated energy, self-motivation, personal commitment, and ownership
* Ability to constructively interact with colleagues from a wide variety of roles within the company.
* Strong computer skills. Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Minitab is a plus.
