Introduction
IBM Cloud is hiring a Design Manager to lead the Infrastructure Compute Platforms team.

Your Role and Responsibilities
As Design Manager of the Infrastructure as a Service Compute Platforms team, youll lead a team of Austin-based visual and UX designers responsible for the product suites that make up the foundations of the entire IBM Cloud. This includes direct responsibility for experiences within our Next Generation Infrastructure portfolio such as VPC, Virtual & Bare Metal Servers and their associated networking & storage ecosystem. Youll influence every aspect of the product creation process, from brainstorming the next great innovation to ensuring pixel perfect quality before launch. Youll mentor members of our team to elevate our level of craft, guide branding decisions to create a uniquely IBM product experience, and drive UX and UI consistency across the platform.
Represent design as part of the cross-functional Platform leadership team to help set the strategy for the organization. Partner with the User Research team to utilize generative research in strategy development

Leverage your management experience to coach talented and engaged designers on Enterprise Design Thinking practices

Give creative direction to ensure the highest quality, market-leading design outcomes

Lead a team of designers as a first-line manager, plus guide several additional dotted line researchers embedded from the user research team

Actively participate in design discovery activities to help define products and features

Continuously improve the operational way we engage with cross functional teams throughout the entire product delivery process of idea to execution

Prioritize work effectively and collaborate with brilliant software engineers, product managers, researchers and designers in a fast-moving culture

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
A proven track record of leading design teams focused on delivering user centered outcomes
User-centered mindset: define user experience goals and design principles; translate technological, operational, and functional constraints into human-centered opportunities. Should feel comfortable leading others to use design thinking to achieve results that matter
UX: ability to understand, navigate, and design for complex technical landscapes; demonstrate proficient skill in understanding content, functions, and relationships within a given ecosystem/portfolio; demonstrate in a visual and compelling manner to drive alignment across team
Leadership: ability to collaborate across disciplines with technical architects and Offering Managers to align, prioritize, and manage execution (e.g. delegate, mobilize team members towards execution)

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
8+ years of hands-on work experience creating software experiences, preferably for enterprise-level software and systems
Attention to detail: you care about the details and appropriately push the quality of the work beyond the status quo (in your own work and in others)
I.T. and cloud computing domain fluency: demonstrate robust understanding of the fundamentals of I.T. industry. Ability to build cross-functional partnerships with technical and business partners, leading team to higher quality outcomes
Curiosity: consistently learning about the domain and technology first-hand (engaging in primary and secondary research, keeping up with industry/market trends, competitive analysis, etc.); establish a strong collaboration with UX researchers, leveraging the research insights and partnering with them to make the smartest decisions for the business
