Job Description

Job Description

MECS is a leading global provider of process technology, proprietary specialty equipment, and technical services to the sulfuric acid industry. A large share of the world's sulfuric acid producers use MECS technology to capture sulfur that would otherwise become a pollutant and transform it into sulfuric acid, the most widely used chemical in the world and a vital part of virtually every industry. MECS technologies enable its users -- primarily in the fertilizer, non-ferrous metals, petroleum refining and chemical industries -- to operate with improved environmental characteristics including reduced air emissions, improved operational efficiencies and lower energy use.

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Research Technician who would be responsible for setup and operation of a variety of lab-scale test units, as well as the development, maintenance, and operation of analytical instruments and methods associated with these test units. The technician would also be responsible for documenting results and making recommendations based upon data generated in the laboratory and maintaining detailed lab notebooks for later use in patent application and defense. The information obtained from testing will be used to develop and verify new technologies and to support the patent application process for new products and technologies.

Typical Laboratory Duties and Responsibilities Include:

* Maintain analytical instruments and perform analyses, such as GC, LC, and wet chemistry methods

* Build and operate glass and metal laboratory systems

* Prepare process solutions and catalysts

* Collect kinetic, transport, and thermodynamic data on catalytic and solvent systems

* Keep detailed laboratory records

* Develop and write safety and operating procedures

* Ensure continued laboratory compliance with MECS quality and safety policies

Job Qualification

* An Associates degree with 5 years of laboratory experience or a BS degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is required.

* Mechanical skills to build and maintain laboratory equipment (glass and metal)

* Working knowledge of Excel, Power Point, Word, process control software such as Labview, and analytical equipment software

* Experience developing methods and operating equipment such as gas, liquid, and ion chromatography, inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, and wet chemistry is required.

* Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing analytical equipment is desirable.

* Must be able to work in the U.S. without restrictions
