Senior Director, Sustainable Materials and Products
This leadership role directs a team of professionals accountable for measuring and continuously reducing the environmental impacts of all materials and products across all VF brands, globally. The leader in this global role will build and implement a scalable framework for measuring and monitoring VFs material and product environmental impacts, create and integrate industry-leading sustainable materials strategies across the global organization, and drive processes and decisions throughout the business and within each brand to reduce the environmental impact of our products. This role will be the most senior decision-maker on environmental sustainability with regard to materials and products, creating and employing relevant frameworks as well as connecting brands product design objectives to VFs supply chain material sourcing and to VFs enterprise-wide goals. Moreover, this leader is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic roadmap through a multi-stakeholder, multi-brand collaborative process to achieve all VF and brand internal and external-facing goals related to sustainable materials and products. This role represents VF to external audiences in order to drive cross-brand industry collaboration, to advocate for VFs business objectives (such as the addition of Material Sustainability Index scores for materials important to VF), and to lead industry-wide movements to drive change beyond what VF can drive alone.
How You Will Make A Difference
* SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS The leader in this role develops and leads VFs overall sustainable materials strategy and drives progress toward our public goals that by 2030 100% of VFs top 9 materials will originate from regenerative, responsibly sourced renewable or recycled sources.
* SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS The leader in this role is proficient on the sustainability attributes of all products placed on the market across all VF brands globally, utilizing and aggregating expertise from the direct team of sustainability professionals reporting to this leader along with the sustainability, materials, and design professionals at each VF brand.
* PACKAGING This role leads VFs sustainable packaging strategy to eliminate all plastic packaging by 2025, and that all remaining packaging shall be minimized, originate from sustainable sources, and designed for recyclability.
* CLIMATE CHANGE This role leads the strategy to make progress toward VFs Science Based Targets (SBTs) for products and materials, which includes the understanding of our baseline impacts, actions that VF could take to achieve its SBTs, development of interventions unknown today, and implementation of such interventions and actions to achieve VFs SBTs for products and materials.
* PRODUCT IMPACT DATA The leader in this role will select and utilize the most appropriate data scoring framework(s) to analyze VFs product footprint, leading internal and external experts to provide brands with the data needed to make choices which reduce a products environmental impact and to effectively measure and communicate to consumers and other stakeholders the actual impact reduction embedded in such choices.
* LEADERSHIP - This role leads a team of global sustainability professionals skilled in the field of product and material sustainability and science, by providing a clear vision and objectives, along with solid development plans tailored to each person on the team.
* MATERIALS DATA MANAGEMENT AND INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL REPORTING This leader is responsible for directing a collaborative process with the sustainable materials footprint team to provide timely and relevant data to the brands for tracking progress toward brand-specific sustainability targets, and for use in brand marketing and communications.
What You Will Do:
* Create holistic strategies and implementation plans to drive achievement of VFs public commitments related to sustainable materials and products and packaging. Lead internal stakeholders to develop and successfully advance a sustainable materials and products program and implement a sustainable packaging strategy; specifically engaging with the Strategy Team, Brand Leadership and the Supply Chain to align efforts and develop successful solutions to reduce VFs key material environmental impacts. Determine if white-space opportunities exist to innovate and commercialize solutions.
* Lead internal working groups on specific sustainable materials topics of relevance across VF and its brands, while driving industry leadership for new and emerging sustainable material topics. Lead development and deployment of tangible tools, resources, and other outputs.
* Lead collaborative process with Materials Footprint team to deliver relevant and timely sustainable materials data to appropriate teams to enable VF and brand data-driven decisions.
* Drive comparative data projects to inform decision-making and drive impact reduction across the organization, including LCA studies and MSI-based scenarios.
* Lead materials and products contributions to climate change programs, including the Science-Based Targets initiative and the UNFCCC Fashion Industry Charter on Climate Change.
* Create and implement guidance and training for product creation teams around sustainable materials, dematerialization, material efficiency, circular design, and other relevant topics.
* Drive teams to conduct and provide research, trends analysis, business case support and general consultation to enable business leaders to drive solutions within their businesses.
* Drive engagement with key external stakeholders such as academia, suppliers, and industry groups to share best practices, develop innovation opportunities, and leverage new technology and learnings to progress the VF platform forward. Represent VF with key external sustainability stakeholders on sustainable materials and products topics.
* Provide subject matter expertise and lead communication efforts throughout the global enterprise related to sustainable products and materials. Drive educational seminars and tools, facilitate dialogue across the company, and share experiences and learnings.
* Provide leadership and drive collaboration within the VF Sustainability Council, the VF Corporate Sustainability team, and the Responsible Sourcing and Supply Chain teams on programs to enhance capabilities throughout VFs platforms to drive environmental improvements.

Educational Position Requirements: A formal education and subsequent undergraduate/graduate degrees are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.

Salary Range:
$160,000.00 USD - $240,000.00 USD annually
Annual Incentive Eligibility:
This position is eligible to participate in VF's Annual Incentive Plan. Incentive Plan awards are contingent upon (1) achievement of your individual objectives and (2) VF achieving its' Corporate and business level financial objectives.
Long Term Incentive Eligibility:
This position is eligible to participate in VFs Executive Long-Term Incentive Plan.
