Responsibilities

Assists the physician and staff members in providing optimal care to patients under the direction of the physician. Prepares treatment rooms for examination including inspections for cleanliness and equipment conditions, stocks and maintains rooms and nurses stations with adequate supplies. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms; prepares for physician visits by obtaining initial patient history/information and vital signs; assists with exams, test and special procedures as directed. Assists with scheduling appointments, pre-certifying patients, referral contacts, clinical and clerical duties.

Greets patients in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner.

Answers telephone within four (4) rings in a courteous manner identifying self and department. Takes messages or direct calls as needed, recording patient messages accurately. Record patient requests for pharmaceutical refills and process patient referrals n appropriate forms.

Maintains the medical records according to policy, copy and transfer records (when indicated). Ensures presence of medical record for following day appointment schedule.

Maintains clean and orderly office and waiting area.

Schedules procedures with the medical center per physician order.

Collects and distributes all results and dictation for physician review in a timely manner.

Assure that accurate and complete demographic and medical information is entered into the computer

Secure all proper signatures and forms from all patients at the time of registration.

All written communications should be in neat handwriting and contain the adequate amount of information needed. All phone messages should contain the person's name, phone number, time and date of call.

Follow-up on all charts must be completed by the end of shift.

Attend 100% of departmental meetings unless excused for illness, vacation, working shift or special circumstances as approved by the Manager. Arrange make-up of any meetings missed due to absences.

Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED required.

Current nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification/registration (MA:RMA), or the ability to obtain certification/registration within 120 days of hire; OR The ABR-OE (Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry) or other nationally recognized credentialing allowing for electronic medical health record (EHR) order entry; or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire.

BLS required.

Minimum of 6 months of clinical experience preferred. Emphasis in clerical experience must include high degree of public contact.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff required.
