We have a great opportunity for you within the Space Test Automation Department in El Segundo, California with the Space Systems Special Test Equipment (STE) team as a Mechanical STE Section Manger.

Job Description:

The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is seeking strong, technically sound engineering leaders committed and passionate about creating innovative, cost-effective solutions for complex remote sensing applications. The successful candidate will be a member of the Space Test Automation department responsible for STE across all Space programs. This position is a functional management position with direct engineering reports. This position may also include technical assignments in the areas of Integration and Test (I&T) or STE design, development, and verification. This position will require proactive interaction and collaboration with personnel from several other functional disciplines in support of prime hardware.

Required Skills:

* Minimum of 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in Defense and/or Aerospace Systems and Test Equipment
* Experience in mechanical design, producibility, manufacturing, hardware integration, testing, structural and thermal analysis, environmental testing, generation of test plans and procedures Demonstrated engineering leadership experience and track record
* Experience in preparing management level briefings and summary explanations
* Demonstrated proficiency in analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication capability, and ability to work in an integrated product team environment
* Demonstrated problem solving, organization, coordination, and planning skills
* Excellent interpersonal communication and technical writing skills to enable effective personal interaction and collaboration with a multi-discipline team
* U.S. Citizenship status is required
* This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance on the first day of employment. Active Top Secret or SSBI preferred.

Desired Skills:

* Experience in space systems
* Technical experience with digital and/or RF systems
* Experience working in an engineering laboratory and transition to production environments performing STE hardware validation and integration and test activities
* Experience in Operations and Factory environments including: procedure development, test, training, transition planning, installation, and deployment
* Knowledge of environmental test methods and practices
* Demonstrated ability to perform test equipment trouble-shooting and failure diagnosis with directly-relevant experience
* Experience in proposal development including Basis of Estimate (BOE) creation
* Experience with leading formal reviews such as Test Readiness Review (TRR), Failure Review Board (FRB), Consent to Ship Review (CTSR)
* Experience with electronic packaging design and integration interpreting signal lists, Electrical Interconnect Diagrams (EICDs), and intra and inter box knowledge
* Experience in test equipment calibration, instrumentation, and environmental stimulus application (vibration and thermal profiles)
* Proficient in Mechanical CAD tools like ProE/CREO (preferred), Autocad and/or Solid Works
* Experience with requirements management tool like DOORS or Slate
* Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T)
* Knowledge of commercial Finite Element Software, such as NASTRAN/PATRAN, ANSYS Workbench, or ABAQUS
* Experience in generating Verification Compliance Requirements Matrices, Requirements Verification Plans, Test Plans, Test Requirements Documents, Test Procedures and Requirements Sell-off Documents
* Technical publications and/or patents
* Active Top Secret clearance or SSBI

Required Education:

* Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM), or Masters degree in relevant field with 8 years of engineering experience

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
