Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbotts Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.
Our location in San Diego, CA currently has an opportunity for a Senior Cloud Software Engineer, within our Infectious Disease Developed Markets business unit in Abbott Rapid Diagnostics. Reporting to the Platform Software and Systems organization, the position of Senior Cloud Software Engineer play a key role in the design of our new nextgen platform. The right candidate for this position will be an experienced Software Engineer who has demonstrated success designing and developing cloud solutions that interface to IoT and mobile devices.
WHAT YOULL DO
* Leads design and development of cloud solutions that operate as part of a larger system including Point of Care IoT devices and the cloud.
* Researches application designs/solutions, considering tradeoffs based on point of care use cases.
* Leverage cloud technologies that result in an optimized solution for a Point of Care IoT based system that connects to mobile devices and the cloud.
* Participates in the definition of the overall system architecture and communication links between all elements of the platform: edge devices, mobile devices, local network, and cloud platform. Execute trade-off studies and recommends solution.
* Builds and maintains software deployment solutions for cloud designs that support diagnostic instruments.
* Stays up to date on cybersecurity technologies, threat assessment tools, and hardening techniques
* Develops and implements communication protocols supporting network connectivity across the hospital and to the cloud.
* Designs software component(s) according to design inputs and architecture. Develops code to implement new functionality or change existing. Implements unit test to meet coverage goals.
* Traces design outputs to design inputs.
* Fixes defects found during implementation process or reported by the software test team.
* Serves as a key technical contributor to requirements development. Collaborates to allocate system functions, define interfaces, resolve conflicting requirements, and develop requirements sufficient to enable delivery of the defined instrument architecture.
* Advocates efficient, simple and compliant mechanism to build robust and quality instrument platform and product lines, taking into considerations elements in the life cycle management of the instrument platform and corresponding products.
* Understand and recognize the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job; has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification and validation, manufacturing and testing activities
* Exhibit professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the companys policies and practices; build productive internal/external working relationships
* Carry out duties in compliance with established business policies
* Other duties as assigned, according to the changing needs of the business
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOULL BRING
Required
* Bachelor of Science, Master of Science (preferred), or Ph.D., Biomedical Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
* 5+ years of successful experience in designing, developing and launching cloud solutions that support interfaces to multiple IoT and mobile devices
Preferred
* 3+ years of experience architecting products for the Medical Device industry (Point of Care in IVD Industry highly preferred).
* Deep cloud domain expertise in: architecture, technologies, data security and privacy, tools, and testing
* Excellent programming skills in Python, Java, or Ruby
* Experience with Service Oriented Architecture, virtualization
* Experience with secure coding best practices and methodologies, vulnerability scans, threat modeling, and cyber-risk assessments.
* Experience with design and implementation of high-availability systems: hot spare/failover mechanisms, load balancers, microservice architectures, distributed systems, stateless communication protocols, scalable data stores
* Experience in cloud services: SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS
* Experience developing software in various cloud environments, cloud storage
* Experience in big data solutions
* Experience integrating systems that include IoT devices, mobile devices, and network server solutions.
* Experience with PKI, SSL, TLS, HTTPS, SSH and secure memory management.
* Ability to lead engineering discussions and work as a bridge among different engineering departments and global stakeholders.
* Proficient with Medical Device regulations (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304,21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, FDA SW Guidelines).
