Located in South Gate, Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a fullservice destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut off services and heat treat capability.
Position Summary
The Machinist Level 03 safely and effectively operates 35 axis CNC machines and conventional mills and lathes to produce complex aerospace parts demonstrating advanced cross training flexibility, including first part run and full machine recovery. Level 03 machinists can complete complex setups on 35 axis machines, apply advanced blueprint and GD&T reading to complex production inspection processes. Level 03 machinists will also be able to edit programs and write simple programs to make tooling. Level 03 machinist competencies include troubleshooting complex parts. Typically, 46 years of experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
* Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
* Support and complies with the company's Quality System, AS9100, Cardinal Rules of Quality, Cardinal Rules of Safety.
* Execute to the production schedule.
* Ensure the area has the materials and supplies to meet production needs.
* Execute by completing orders that meet quality standards in the required timeline.
* Ensure the machines are running safely, efficiently and effectively.
* Ensure operators are following work instructions and processes.
* Provide daily updates through PCC03 or other tools.
* Submit work orders to Maintenance.
* Implement process improvements.
* Attend company meetings.
* Read and comply with work instructions, set up sheets, and checklists.
* Enter production information into the ERP system on a timely basis.
* Accurately complete records and reports of hours worked.
* Completes Production Incident Report for all red tags as soon as possible (no later than before the end of the shift) and notifying a Supervisor.
* The ability to setup complex part/tool setup.
* Maintain verification of machine accuracy.
* Verify complex part layout.
* The ability to setup and rework jobs.
* Basic Knowledge of G Code Application & MDI (manual mode).
* Basic programming (machine coding speeds & feeds).
* Achieve full machine recovery.
* Maintain setup of all machine platforms.
* Capable of operating all machines in the machine shop.
* Understanding shop metrics & how work impacts business results.
* Demonstrate leadership and positively models culture.
* The ability to effectively train others.
* Capable of reading Blueprints and GD&T.
* Capable of complex job inspections/benching.
* Other duties as assigned.
Experience & Education
* High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
* Oneyear industryrelated certificate from college or technical school is preferred.
* 4+ years related experience is required.
* Experience in manufacturing; aerospace preferred.

* Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
* Use overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings.
* Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, and write or edit computerized machine control media.
* Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or outoftolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
* Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
* Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
* Confer with other personnel to resolve machining problems.
* Write Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts; clean and maintain machine and tools; and grind tools and accessories.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors or employees of Company.
* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
* Familiarity with all tools and equipment in a machine shop, including drill press, tool grinders, power saws, belt sanders, various measuring tools, shovel, broom, tape readers and punches, etc.
