Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

Provides management to the team conducting engineering analysis to determine the operating requirements and procedures for the distribution system. Provides support to real time distribution operations. Oversees group efforts related to compliance and special tools.

Job Responsibilities

* Acts as support and consulting engineering during emergency situations such as major storms, PSPS events, heat waves, and other abnormal conditions.
* Advocates for Distribution Operations Engineering input at the front end of transmission and distribution capital projects. Ensures Distribution Operations Engineers are present at key quarterly and ad hoc meetings.
* Coordinates ongoing training and education for Distribution Operations Engineers to ensure familiarity to new standards and regulatory compliance.
* Develops and maintains relationships with counterparts at the following external organizations: Distribution Planning, Distribution Generation, Distribution Protection, System Protection and others as required.
* May be responsible for developing initiatives to ensure training compliance of Distribution Operations Engineers.
* May have oversight of Distribution Operations Engineers participation in special projects to implement improvements to the distribution power system such as the implementation of new applications.
* May have special responsibility for compliance efforts including collecting evidence for CAP analysis, participating in investigations, reporting incidents, and overseeing the writing of operating documents and procedures.
* May oversee the participation of Distribution Operations Engineers in seasonal studies for the DMS system.
* Provides support and maintains relationships with key internal organizations including Systems Dispatch, Project Managers, Asset Strategy, Distribution Planning/Operations, Energy Procurement, Energy Solutions & Services, Market Design and Analysis, Generator Interconnection services, Substation Construction, Substation Maintenance Superintendents and others to provide for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the PG&E distribution system.
* Provides team leadership, oversight and tracking for assigned area of the distribution system in the (North) by reviewing power study results and maintaining current knowledge of the system areas.
* Supervises Engineers. 8-15 employees.
* May fill in for supervisors in the CDCC and SDCC on occasion.
* Supervises, coaches and develops engineering staff. Develops and administers performance management plans that drive high performance. Assesses developmental needs and develops plans to address those needs.

Qualifications

Minimum:

* Bachelors Degree in Engineering-Electrical or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
* 5 years of experience in an operating capacity with transmission systems or related power systems experience
