What you will be responsible for:
* Conducts all clinical laboratory tests within department policy and procedure.
* Extensive knowledge of the department.
* Observes and notes test results, documenting and retesting any procedures that exceed linearity limits or meet repeat criteria.
* Performs quality control on all applicable tests to ensure reliability of results.
* Reviews incomplete test reports to assure that all procedures have been completed.
* Performs daily maintenance procedures on assigned instruments.
* Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital policies and procedures.
* Collects specimens from infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric patients in a manner that supports the guest relations policy of the hospital.
* This position requires ongoing contact with others. Contacts within and outside the hospital are constant and significant. Interacts with physicians, physician office personnel, nursing personnel, sales representatives, nursing home and laboratory personnel. These contacts often require special tact to resolve problems, create good impressions and maintain good will.
* * There is moderate chance of loss or damage to material resources. Maximum dollar amount of loss or damage = $5,000. The position requires processing large volumes of patient information that require discretion in their use. The SECTION SUPERVISOR is responsible for assuring compliance with CAP regulatory requirements.
Periodic Duties
* Compiles and reviews quality control records. Assists in resolving QC issues.
* Performs linearitys, calibrations, precision and parallel testing as required.
* Reviews inventory and orders supplies as needed. Meets with sales representatives as needed.
* Monitors prices and reviews and reconciles invoice discrepancies.
* Performs weekly or monthly maintenance functions on assigned instruments.
* Supervises the performance and responses to CAP surveys.
* Maintains and updates MSDS collection. Updates Hazardous Material and Hazardous Waste Inventory lists.
* Participates in Performance Improvement activities in respective department(s).
* Reviews patient master logs.
* Responsible for managing storage of records in assigned department.
Irregular Duties
* Answers questions and resolves problems regarding patient tests.
* Troubleshoots instrument problems.
* Review and updates policy and procedure manuals.
* Evaluates and institutes new procedures and instrumentation.
* Orients new personnel to the department.
* Prepares and conducts competency tests on testing personnel.
* Prepares for CAP inspections by reviewing all checklist questions and is responsible for answering all inspector questions in assigned department(s). Responsible for implementing corrective actions.
* Responsible for implementing LIS updates, interfaces and conversions.
* May be required to participate in the Quality Improvement Committee or in QI activities or projects.
* May be required to take call during peak productivity periods.
* Performs miscellaneous duties as requested by Laboratory director.
* Conducts special projects as requested by lab director.
* Performs numerous Lab director functions during her absence.
* Functions in an unassisted, indirectly supervised capacity. Supervises the MEDICAL TECHNICIANS, GRADUATE MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS, MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST. Responsible for training laboratory personnel to perform medical technology procedures in assigned department.
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
* Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent Medical Technology degree is required.
* Successful completion of training in an accredited medical technology or medical laboratory sciences program is required.
* Four years of medical technology experience in a clinical laboratory is required. Two years of experience in assigned department is required.
* Must possess a Florida license as a Medical Technologist or Supervisor
* The work is performed independently necessitating self-motivation, interpretation and development of policy and the efficient management of multiple, often conflicting priorities. The employee must use her/his own judgment or initiative to resolve problems. The consequences may be extensive. Mature judgment and initiative is required.
Job Summary:
The SECTION SUPERVISOR has the authority and responsibility for ensuring quality patient care by effectively managing the section(s) to which he/she is assigned. Responsibility to adhere to the Florida Hospital DeLand Corporate Compliance plan, to the rules and regulations of all local, state and Federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.
