Intensive Care RN delivers care to patients using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provide care to acutely and critically ill patients, in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment. Delivers extensive medication protocols and therapies. Faces the additional responsibility for the emotional and psychosocial health of the patient, family and significant others.

Practices within the limits of the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act and the Valley View Medical Center's Policies and Procedures.

Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

Ensures patient confidentiality and has a clear understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Understands and carries out Lifepoint Health Patient's Rights and Responsibilities.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

Provides nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

Keeps patients under close observation and administers prescribed medications and treatments.

Provides assistance to the physician or other medical personnel in the assessment of patients and delivery of treatment, medications, labs, radiology reports and other life support equipment necessary.

Coordinates the delivery of patient care on the Unit, including admission, transfer and discharge processes.

Completes required documentation including all medical charts and care-related notes using the written and Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Participates in patient/family teaching and discharge planning, effectively utilizing the Nursing Process.

Provides leadership by working cooperatively and effectively with physicians, ancillary staff and other administrative and support personnel in maintaining the standards of professional nursing practice in the multidisciplinary clinical setting.

Provides the basic leadership required of a Registered Nurse for subordinate staff on the Unit.

Maintains quality delivery of patient care by completing patient assignments in compliance with the Nursing Process, the Arizona Nurse Practice Act, THE JOINT COMMISSION (TJC) and State regulations and established Hospital Policies and Procedures.

Strives to consistently give all patients, family members and others served positive, supportive interactions based on Valley View Medical Centers Standards of Behavior.

Other duties as assigned and required in the operation of the hospital.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent Preferred X Required
Associates degree Preferred X Required
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a current license in the state practicing.
Bachelors degree X Preferred Required

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications:
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (American Heart Association) X REQUIRED
APEX Innovations assigned and completed within 90 Days of Hire and annually
Telemetry monitoring Exam given at hire.
Moderate Sedation Certified or obtained within 90 days of hire
Must have hemodynamic monitoring experience

Required Licenses
[Arizona, United States] Registered Nurses
Valid/Current Arizona Registered Nurse Licensure Required or
Valid/Current Compact State Registered Nurse Licensure
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) Preferred

Minimum Work Experience
One (1) year of Critical Care Experience Preferred
