This is a key position that is part of the Western Timberlands Lead Team and reports to the business Vice President. The position is based in Vancouver, WA and involves fluctuating travel requirements necessary to support our Oregon and Washington operations.

Weyerhaeuser's western land base is approximately 3 MM acres of timberlands across Oregon and Washington that has specific needs with respect to silviculture strategy and execution. In addition, the western regeneration business includes 4 nurseries and 4 seed orchards, with approximately 17 million seedlings planted on the land base each year.

Key Functions

* As a key member of the Western Timberlands Leadership Team, the Director of Western Silviculture and Regeneration is responsible for:
* Setting strategic silviculture direction with the lead team; accountable for participating on the WTL lead team to achieve business segment expectations.
* Evolving silviculture strategies and tactics to effectively align with financial, operations and marketing objectives.
* Setting priorities, establishing best practices for silviculture, monitoring and analyzing results, and leading the discussion and adoption of best practices.
* Leading the Western Silviculture functional team; support the development and advancement of silviculture skill capabilities of all WY foresters.
* Working with the Western Timberlands operating areas and functional team to set expectations, communicate initiatives and progress, resolve issues, and assist with goal setting.
* Communicating, building understanding and support, developing/executing implementation plans with operating areas, ensuring strong alignment of goals, deliverables, and processes.
* Analyzing the growth/yield and financial implications of silviculture options.
* Maintaining silviculture key metrics (collect, summarize, communicate budgeting, performance management and cost tracking.
* Facilitate planning/review processes; inspect on the ground and resolve inconsistencies/issues.
* Managing the Western Regeneration business through the Regeneration Team Leaders.
* Working with R&D to capture applied forestry technology and data opportunities.
* Partnering with External Affairs and the Environmental Management systems (EMS) group to address forestry related regulatory issues.

* Proven track record of accomplishments driving financial performance improvement and maximizing returns. Includes experience and understanding of Timberlands operations and marketing functions, environmental issues, and regulations.
* Silviculture knowledge and credibility - biology, biometrics, financials, logistics - and proven strategic thinking and analysis skills.
* Proven ability to inspire and motivate high levels of individual and team performance as well as the ability to lead diverse groups through tough issues and deal with conflict.
* Proven experience/accomplishments which demonstrate ability to optimize assets with exposure to growth of timberland management business (invest, divest, and acquire).
* Proven capability to work solid external relations and issue management.
* Lead with a world view and work well across diverse cultures.



Qualifications

* BS in Forestry or related field. A post-graduate degree is preferred.
* Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
* Experienced leader - able to set goals, establish appropriate metrics, plan and inspect for results, resolve people and resource conflicts.
* Ability to manage large projects and initiatives and inspire commitment to forestry direction, practices, and change.
* Ability to proactively resolve issues across functions and teams and various levels of the organization.
* Excellent communication relationship skills - proven ability to build support and guide change initiatives through others while maintaining a strong consistent direction and commitment at the field level.
* Confidence and capability to challenge and influence at senior levels of the organization.
* Entrepreneurial mindset.
* Excellent negotiation skills.
