The Plant Manager directs the efforts of manufacturing operations to deliver products that meet or exceed customer quality and delivery requirements while ensuring alignment with SEF strategic and operational objectives. Directly responsible for production processes, manufacturing engineering, inventory control, purchasing, distribution, and shipping/receiving activities of assigned manufacturing location(s).

The incumbent demonstrates and drives all people management responsibilities including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, compensation planning and employee relations for direct and matrixed reports.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership and Supervision:

* Cascade strategic objectives (ex. KPIs) and messages from Division and Operations functional leadership to the site personnel. Set and clarify requirements and expectations for direct and matrixed reports based on the strategic direction and needs of the business.
* Plan and implement a communications plan focused on content and frequency which helps drive the delivery of key messages and business outcomes on a regular/frequent basis.
* Mentor, coach and engage team; provide timely performance feedback.
* Drive employee engagement programs at the site(s) with a strong focus on recognition.
* Proactively address potentially difficult or complex employee relations issues while pulling in the necessary stakeholders (ex. HR, Legal, Union representative etc.)
* Implement and follow strategic workforce planning and successful talent development strategies leveraging annual OPR succession plans.
* Initiate and drive change to implement lean principles and a lean management system across all functions within the plant.
* Demonstrates complete ownership of the Plant P&L.

Operational Excellence:

* Drive the creation and implementation of Quality and Continuous Improvement initiatives which enable functional areas and site to meet or exceed plan. This includes process changes and other Lean initiatives, techniques and enhancements.
* Take steps to ensure best practices are shared.
* Utilizes a weekly cadence to measure progress of all transformational activities including Productivity, Inventory, Lean, People, Communications using an organized operating system that may include one or more reviews with Staff as needed for the plant.
* Conduct daily GEMBA walks to measure achievement towards Key Performance Indicators and solicit process improvement ideas.
* Lead and Coach daily Performance and accountability meetings at the shop floor as well as Staff.
* Partner with Industry 4.0 teams and manufacturing engineers on automated process improvements, new technology and other process improvements.
* Drive Leader standard work for inventory, safety, quality, delivery, inventory, productivity and lean.
* Set and monitor product standards to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality; Develop and implement robust corrective actions to prevent and detect future occurrences and defects; Review customer chargebacks and develop effective resolution.
* Own environmental, health and safety for the site including facilities management.
* Coordinate or recommend procedures for facility or equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines; Implement and maintain capital assets.
* Participate in monthly meetings including Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), Financial Review, Quality Review, Safety Review.
* Prepare and maintain production reports and records regarding quality, delivery, cost, equipment effectiveness, inventory, etc.
* Responsible for P&L, conversion cost and material productivity for assigned location(s). Develops budgets or approve expenditures for supplies, materials, or human resources, ensuring that materials, labor, and equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.
* Review processing schedules or production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments; Coordinate with S&OP personnel and processes to ensure balanced supply and demand.
* Develop or implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control or other operational reports to detect production problems; Confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve problems.
* Support new product development; Review plans and confer with research or support staff to develop new products or processes; Regularly review and update ProTrak system.
* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

* Bachelors or university degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical) or other related technical discipline or equivalent qualifying experience.
* Manufacturing management experience of 5+ years.
* Effective budget management skills.
* Demonstrated effectiveness at developing and managing teams.
* Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with multiple priorities.
* Prior experience with Lean, Sig Sigma, and Corporate safety initiatives.
* Proficiency with a recognized quality system, example: ISO9001, IATF16949, AS9100, etc.
* Computer skills using information systems, such as HR, QA, Safety, ERP, etc.
* Knowledge of manufacturing, quality and safety practices.
* Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.

Preferred:

* Prior roles as an Operations Manager, Engineering Manager, Supply Chain leader and/or Quality leader in a manufacturing setting preferred
* 8+ years manufacturing management experience preferred
* MBA or other advanced degree
* Experience using Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) strategies preferred
* Experience in metals and/or plastics manufacturing preferred
* Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
* Direct Experience implementing a Lean manufacturing / Lean enterprise culture
