Overview
The Design team at HarperCollins Childrens Books is currently seeking a Design Assistant. The ideal candidate is highly creative and thrives in an exciting, faced-paced environment. The Design Assistant will report to the Senior Art Director and will workalongside a seasoned design team on all stages of a book's development, from the earliest concepts through final, print ready mechanicals and will have a front row seat to many exciting projects!
Responsibilities
* Provide design support to Senior Art Director and other Managers on the Design Team as needed
* Provide administrative supportto the Designteam including archiving files, updating charts, processing invoices and contracts, purchasing fonts, ordering books, etc.
* Create materials for presentations that may include sketch comps and illustrator suggestions
* Under supervision, design front list novels and interiors, paperbacks, paperback repackages, graphic novels, reprints and bound galleys
* Provide general assistance to team on special projects as needed
Qualifications
* A college degree or equivalent work experience required
* At least 1 year of relevant work experience (including but not limited to internships and/or coursework)
* Course work in graphic design, typography, and illustration preferred
* A passion for children's books, book publishing and design
* Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
* Enthusiastic self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills
* Detail oriented with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
* Ability to learn and adapt quickly and work effectively in a team setting
