Description:
The thermal analyst will be a member of the Hardware Engineering team responsible for the development of mechanical, structural, thermal and electronic systems and assemblies across various platforms in the Integrated Warfare Systems & Sensors business. Responsible for research and development of viable thermal and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of launching and missile systems for air, surface, undersea, and hypersonic warfare systems as well as ship platform design for multiple Surface Navy platforms.
Tasks include, but are not be limited to: performing analysis of discrepant hardware, components, or assemblies during on-going assembly and integration activities; specifying test concepts, instrumentation and data acquisition and write plans and reports, and performing thermal analysis and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis for transient and steady state systems; performing thermochemical analysis of rocket motor combustion and resulting products/states. Candidate must have good communication skills to be able to interface effectively with multiple engineering disciplines.
Basic Qualifications:
- Skills in Engineering (i.e., Mechanical, Civil, Systems - Engineering, Project Engineering). Coursework in Math and Physics or other physical sciences.
- CFD analysis experience with STAR-CCM, ICEPAK, FLUENT or other CFD analysis tools
Desired Skills:
An advanced degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or closely related technical field is desired for this position
Strong verbal & written communications skills
Testing experience including creating test concepts, selecting sensors, specifying data acquisition, monitoring testing, and writing plans, procedures and reports.
Thermal analysis using either FEA or specialized thermal codes
Candidate must be able to work with general direction and must be able to communicate effectively
Design/analysis to a broad audience, and Standard Microsoft Office applications
Finite Element Stress and Dynamic analysis using ANSYS and/or NASTRAN
