Facebook is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for our team responsible for design, development and support of hardware-near software for accelerators and other components used in our infrastructure. The team consists of embedded software engineers focused on solving infrastructure problems at scale in areas such as video processing and machine learning. The team works in close collaboration with a large cross-functional team spanning from hardware and system integration engineers to application developers. In this role, you bring hands-on experience leading teams bringing up new silicon products in compute, storage or networking areas. You feel at home working on software at the boundary of the hardware interface, and a passion for delivering products at scale.
Manager, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems Responsibilities
* Manage a team of software engineers that builds the firmware and software that enables application-specific accelerators in our data centers.
* Manage engineers and help them develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.
* Communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams.
* Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.
* Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.
* Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees.
Minimum Qualifications
* Proven track record of leading and managing Firmware and Embedded Software teams.
* Experience in hands-on development in C/C++ for embedded systems and evaluating firmware architecture and tradeoffs in custom HW IP blocks or SoC design.
* Knowledge of computer architecture, hardware interfaces real-time operating systems and driver development on high-level operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications
* Excellent understanding of most systems on modern SoCs: CPU cores, NoC, memory bandwidth tradeoffs, low-power, host interfaces, bootloaders, security, imaging and video pipelines.
* Delivered firmware for successful chip tapeouts as well as chip bringup and deployment experience.
* Experience in test-driven development (TDD) and continuous integration (CI) techniques for embedded systems.
