Develops and provides services related to the orientation, competencies, continuing education, and assessment of clinical staff.
Partners with the operational managers to ensure that nursing staff delivers safe and effective care. The role is built around leadership, consultation, research, education, and clinical practice.
This is a Department of Nursing Service position that provides delivery of patient care with the knowledge of a Registered Nurse. Must demonstrate the clinical ability to work as Primary RN on the Unit to which assigned. Must be able to coordinates the delivery of patient care on the Unit; completes required documentation; participates in patient/family teaching and discharge planning, effectively utilizing the Nursing Process.
Essential Functions

Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental/organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.
Collaborates with nurse managers/leaders and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff.
Serves as a consultant/mentor for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.
Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation and education activities
Assists in interviewing staff and provides input into evaluations regarding clinical competence, participating in the creation, implementation, and follow up of action plans for professional, competency development and recommending terminations when appropriate.
Provides coaching and counseling to the nursing staff and other health care providers.
Participates as a part of management in providing 24 hour clinical leadership by developing standards of practice, policies and procedures for a specialty patient population that are consistent with professional practice standards.
Evaluates clinical practice in areas of specialty to ensure community/professional standards are met.
Rounds with the multi-disciplinary team in specialty area (any setting & includes community needs assessments).
Evaluates policies and procedures for clinical nursing practice in specialty area integrating the evidence from systematic reviews.
Facilitates multidisciplinary collaboration based on clinical needs of patient/family related to specialty area.
Participates in outcomes research/evidence based practice projects.
Identifies clinical quality indicators for specialty populations.
Active involvement with specialty specific professional organizations as evidenced by participation on the professional organization leadership and operational groups (such as Committees) and/or participation at professional conferences.
Develops, implements/coordinates, and evaluates specialty education programs for patient and families.
Develops, implements/coordinates, and evaluates specialty training programs for nursing staff, including nurses in the communities.
Ensures that patient care and quality standards meet and comply with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and established departmental policy and procedures, utilization, and clinical performance standards and measures.
Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary team to coordinate and provide excellent patient care.

Masters Degree

Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) License -OR-
Compact State Registered Nurse (RN) License
Certification(s) Required Upon Hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Certification(s) Required Within Six (6) Months of Hire
TNCC certification
Minimum Work Experience Preferred
At least 3 year ICU experience
Required Skills
Requires superior critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
