Job Description
The career level process engineer, able to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Skilled in equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of parts. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative is exercised as well as independent judgment.
Scope of Responsibilities:
* Interpret and understand the LDT Body Shop A, B, C, and E31 dimensional metrics. Ensure targets met for GCA performance.
* Drive improvements in performance to achieve metric targets and resolve Top Vehicle quality issues assigned.
* Support variation reduction activities by conducting tooling repeatability studies (drill panel/Tooling 101), special dimensional studies.
* Drive improvements in metric performance and assigned Top Vehicle quality issues
* Identify/document and update dimensional issues and implement solutions to Top Off Nominal, Variation, and Vehicle quality problems
* Utilize part/assembly data (CMM, scanning, handheld, vision, GD&T, etc) and work with/in Tools (checking/weld fixtures, ETAC, ITAC) to problem solve and develop/implement solutions
* Conducts regular dimensional reviews and develop improvement plans with team members
* Regularly monitors dimensional data reports (for assemblies assigned) to:
* Confirm part/process changes improved as expected, communicate break points to customers.
* Identify/communicate issues (unknown causes/unexpected results) that could impact downstream operations
* Assist/Support LDT Body Shop in Matching activities, tooling repeatability studies (drill panel/Tooling 101), special dimensional studies, including: supplier visits to communicate/drive part quality issues, slow build, match build, etc
* Document approved tool changes, shim moves, and communicate break points to appropriate customers
* Attend weekly Body Shop PFMEA Users Group meeting, prepare PFMEA presentations and report out as required
* Review all VOCs and update PFMEAs as needed
* Conduct yearly PFMEA and RPL 1 audits for Body Shop
* Develop and implement error proofing solutions as needed to reduce PFMEA scores
* Implement automated Red Panel checks in high RPN areas
* Support Final Line Fitters and provide a conduit between Body Shop and Body Fit Team in GA.
* The LDT Body Shop is a (2) shift operation and requires shift rotation.
* Supervise hourly employees
* Be able to work weekends on tooling projects
* Occasionally assist team by covering Maintenance Group Leaders on weekends

Required:
* Understands the basic dimensional process and how/who creates and where to locate program information
(Engineering Specifications Measurement Routines Checking Fixtures Data Collection Metrics)
* Understands/Proficient in key dimensional processes including:
* Dimensional metrics
* Part Matching
* Drive to Nominal
* Can read/understand Engineering Specifications (GD&T/DTS) and Dimensional Data (CMM, vision, handheld, scan)
* Software/Tools:
* Microsoft Office-Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, GSIP, Polyworks
* Team Center - Vis Mockup
* FIT software
* Can setup and use Go Pro
* Dimensional Analysis and Problem Solving Skills:
* Statistical Process Control, Red X, 5 Whys, GMS, Solution Tree or Fishbone Diagram
* Tooling repeatability Drill Panel/Tooling 101
* Knowledge of Tooling/Locators and can work in weld tools
* Understand data and can make tool moves (as needed)
* Understand Tool Certification report
* Lockout/Safety Practices
* Can communicate effectively verbally and via electronic presentation reports/materials
* Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
* High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
* High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
* High level of oral and written communication skills
* Strong project management leadership skills
Preferred:
* Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS, BIQ, PMFEA, GCA, DRL, DRR)
* Knowledge of GM standards (MD1, TC1, MV1, etc.)
* Knowledge of continuous improvement processes (CIP)
