About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edisons (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCEs 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The Planning Sr. Specialist position is responsible for overseeing, reviewing and/or preparing complex electrical designs for a number of internal organizations. This position will be in the Technical Planning, Design Contractor Hub located in Valencia at the Stanford Building.

Responsibilities may include:

* Communicate with customers, Distribution Engineering, Distribution Operations Center and other internal organizations to determine technical requirements regarding the design of new customer-driven projects.
* Define the scope and operational requirements for preparation of preliminary electrical and civil design.
* Coordinate design activities for all infrastructure replacement programs, including WCR circuits, capacitors, deteriorated structures, cable replacement, switch replacement, and AR replacement programs.
* Overseeing the design of major under grounding projects.
* Coordinate with Distribution Engineering, Civil Construction, PMO, Drafting, Scheduling, Construction, Environmental, Design Contractors, and other internal organizations to create electrical designs.
* Prepare work order documents, preparing and reviewing work order drawings, and completing and approving final work order packages.
* Order materials and identifying expected construction labor and timeframes.
* Complete all necessary contracts, invoices, and easement requests.
* Apply for necessary permits, FAA approval and submitting environmental reviews to prepare project for eventual construction.
* Experience managing several projects concurrently, adjusting to shifting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
* Ability to collaborate with others.
* Ability to gather and analyze information, and make sound decisions independently and in consideration of applicable policies and procedures.
* Ability to take initiative and be accountable for the accuracy of information and for achieving results.
* Forward completed work order packages to sponsor organization and updating all internal systems as required.
* Assist Designers and other team members with technical issues.
* Prepare Contractor Ariba Work Assignments (CAWA).
* Act as a team leader in coordinating efforts of contract planners, engineers, customers, and all other internal sources for the purpose of creating a high quality electrical design in a timely manner.
* Support system emergencies as they arise.
* Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
* Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

* Three years of experience working in an electrical utility distribution service planning function.
* Valid U.S. drivers license.

Desired Qualifications

* A combination of formal education, training, and experience to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities generally equivalent to those possessed by a high school graduate.
* Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, distribution design standards, construction standards, electrical service requirements, and industry practices.
* Experience determining scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for overhead and underground facilities.
* Experience preparing work orders or construction plans on projects.
* Experience in SCE systems such as DM, SAP, AUD, CSS and knowledge of resource books such as DDS, UGS, ESR, Overhead and Underground Construction Manuals.
* Experience using interpersonal skills to handle customer relations issues in an effective manner, which result in win-win situations.
* Experience managing multiple projects and functioning effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities and making critical decisions with minimal supervision.
* Strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to clients business needs.
* Ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions that have considerable business impact.
* Ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and other work units.
* Ability to take initiative and accountability for the accuracy of information and for achieving results.
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* Able to drive, traverse on uneven surfaces, occasionally lift up to 40 lbs, sit/stand for extended periods of time, work in various weather conditions, and possibly be in remote regions (coast, desert, and mountain) for extended periods of time.

Comments

* Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
* Position will require 30% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
