Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Senior Traffic Engineer for immediate employment in Orange, CA. This individual will serve as a local lead in S. California to manage traffic analyst related services and development of junior engineering and technician support staff. This individual will also be supportive of the traffic engineering services for this market supporting business development, task estimating and project management duties led by others. Other services may include traffic engineering technical tasks for design / engineering of roadway, highway, freeway, pedestrian and bicycle, intelligent transportation systems, technology deployments, and other transportation infrastructure projects.

The appropriately qualified applicant should be able to demonstrate an established career in traffic modeling and transportation management systems with a focus on roadway / highway projects.

Main responsibilities are:

* Manage traffic analyst services for projects in southern California and support northern California or regional projects as-needed.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to discuss projects with co-workers, clients, regulatory agency staff, AECOM staff, and the public in meetings and at public events as well as write concise and readable technical reports and documents.

* Relevant experience in transportation planning, modeling, and engineering for multimodal transportation projects.

* Supporting a wide range of planning and preliminary engineering projects for roadway, freeway, transit systems, managed lanes, bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

* Assist project managers on various projects involving transportation plans, traffic safety and public involvement, and the overall preparation of CEQA and NEPA compliance documents.

* Experience with FHWA, State, and local transportation planning, traffic and environmental processes.

* Must be highly self-motivated with the ability to successfully multi-task, perform detail-oriented work, work independently, and demonstrate effective time management skills.

* Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

* Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving design calculations, analysis, value engineering, writing technical specification and project cost estimate.

* Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered, apply innovative design solution, implementing current technology to meet project design needs.

* Provides guidance, mentor and coach to entry level/junior engineers, or technicians, to learn and improve their technical skills.

* Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

* Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software programs (Word, Excel. Outlook, and preferable Project)

* Skilled in traffic simulation / modeling software including: Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, and other platforms utilized by local agencies in southern California.

* Must be highly self-motivated with the ability to successfully multi-task, perform detail-oriented work, work independently, demonstrate effective time management skills, and consistently deliver high-quality deliverables.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience including work in the state of California or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

* Minimum 8 years of job-related experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

* California PE/TE licensure

* Experience in traffic modelling and transportation management systems and guiding civil design with a focus on roadway / highway

* Hands on design/study experience on Caltrans transportation projects and familiar with Caltrans standards, Highway Design Manual, Traffic Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, policy and procedures are preferred.

* Highly experienced in travel demand model use involving four-step and activity based models as well as traffic operation models
