Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

A Research Technician I position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. David Lagares at the MGH Center for Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases (CIID) and the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Our research laboratory focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern tissue repair, regeneration and fibrosis following injury and aims at identifying novel therapeutic strategies to reduce tissue fibrosis while promoting regeneration. Our lab is a fertile training ground for the next generation of scientists and physician-scientists and provides an interactive, nurturing and productive environment.

We are particularly interested in individuals with interest in translational biology of human disease. Candidates from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. A minimum of two-year commitment is needed for this position.

DESCRIPTION

This is a full-time position. Primary managerial duties include scheduling staff, reordering supplies, and maintaining security standards. Research responsibilities include running experiments under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and the supervision of the laboratory members.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment

Understands and applies basic scientific techniques

Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment

Maintains laboratory notebook

Participate in the design of experiments

Perform modification of protocols

May perform independent literature searches

Assists with organizing materials for publication of research papers or presentation

Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.

Provides administrative support to the PI.

Assists the PI running the laboratory safely and efficiently.

Implements new procedures, programs, tests, methods, and instrumentation.

Assist the PI and lab members with determining the most suitable methodology

Conducts analysis of results

Prepare and present reports

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or cell biology is required.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Knowledge of good laboratory techniques and the scientific method.

Ability to prioritize, work within deadlines and multi-task.

Analytical skills and the ability to identify problems and develop solutions.

Ability to interpret acceptability of data results

Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written) and be able to lead and direct others
