Job Description

Description:
You couldve been a counselor youre that good at listening to people, putting them at ease, and asking the right questions to get to the root of problems but your love of technology pulled you to engineering. Now, ~10 years into your career, your engineering colleagues know that youll share your extensive knowledge of manufacturing technologies and processes to help them solve their challenges and achieve their goals. Finance folks trust you because they know that you think about non-recurring, material, labor and sustainment costs, and help the business make optimal choices. And everyone respects you because they know that if you dont know how to help them, youll say so, and then go learn what you need to in order to be able to provide assistance.

Does this sound like you? If the answer is an unqualified YES! then you may be a good candidate to be a Cost and Value Staff Engineer for the Engineering Performance and Affordability team at Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS)

In this position, you will work elbow to elbow with expert design engineers to identify the steps that they can take to reduce the cost - but not the customer value! - of the products we are developing. You will apply sophisticated software to help understand what a part should cost, and you will work with stakeholders to make RMS and its suppliers more efficient.

Success in this position will require the ability to drive 1-on-1 engagement with subject matter expert engineers; rapidly develop robust cost models that those engineers and their Integrated Product Teams can believe and use; learn new subject matter, often under time pressure; and build, document, and improve complex processes. As we are a small department with complex and challenging work, we are looking for hard-working generalists, not specialists.

2. Rapidly build models that reliably forecast material use, labor consumption and non-recurring engineering requirements for our products and their components, based on the data that you collect
[rapidly create detailed and robust engineering and financial models: 15%]
3. Marshall specific and relevant information about manufacturing technology, manufacturing processes, and program requirements to enable colleagues at all career stages to make good decisions about cost / value trade-offs
[clearly communicate technical concepts to a diverse audience: 15%]
4. When you cannot find the information or data that you need, track down the data sources and/or people who can answer your questions, convince them to help you, learn what you need, and apply your new knowledge
[apply investigatory abilities and practices, build social networks, 10%]
5. Effectively use multiple digital systems to gather, manipulate, evaluate, and record data
[use databases, business intelligence, accounting, ERP / MRP, and other software; 10%]

[apply attention to detail, demonstrate persistence, 10%]
7. Write narratives that explain your models and estimates, consistently document process, and create audience-appropriate presentations [communicate rapidly, clearly, and concisely, 15%]
8. Identify opportunities by which RMS and its suppliers can reduce costs, engage the subject-matter expert (SME) community to verify those opportunities, and then create business cases and coalitions to implement those opportunities [work with others to identify, validate, and implement improvements: 15%]
