The Surgical Technologist I is a member of operating room team who works under the direct supervision of a surgeon, registered nurses to ensure that the operating room or environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Technologist I possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance.

Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.

Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.

Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery. Maintains sterile field.

Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.

Safely prepares and labels all medications on the procedural field.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

Graduate of a Program in Surgical Technology

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS)-American Heart Association X requiredX Certification from ASTpreferred

Minimum Work Experience

One year work experience preferred
