Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM CIO's mission is to create a productive environment for IBMers, continuously improving the work experience. Toolbox@IBM provides IBMers with a wide range of desktop and software-as-a-service (SaaS) tools that help with desktop backup, collaboration, design, DevOps, incident management, and Agile tracking and planning tools.

The advertised position is with our Toolbox@IBM Developer Tooling Site Reliability Engineering squad, which manages mission critical, on-premise instances of GitHub, Travis CI, and ZenHub, along with the underlying infrastructure supporting them. In each instance, our offering is typically the largest of its kind in the world.

Our SREs take the discipline of Site Reliability Engineering seriously, with a particular focus on resilience (both systemic and personal). We take great pride in Automating All The Things, typically in Golang.

Toolbox@IBM Site Reliability Engineers are responsible for the following:

* Maintaining high availability and site health for the tools in the portfolio, including Github, Travis CI, Zenhub, and the Detect Secrets admin tool
* Providing a support escalation path for end user problems that can't be resolved by our Customer Success Engineering squad
* Automating processes for repeatability, reliability, and auditability
* Staying current on best practices in the realm of large-scale distributed systems management and security, and actively applying those practices to our environments
* Identifying gaps in our offerings and collaborating with stakeholders inside & outside of Toolbox to fill those gaps

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* Demonstrated experience using DevOps tools such as GitHub, TravisCI, and/or ZenHub
* Demonstrated experience with Agile Project Management
* Exposure to forming hypotheses about reported problems and validating these through experimentation and data feedback.
* Exposure to software peer review using GitHub's collaboration features
* Demonstrated experience with Kubernetes

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
* Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering
* Experience in Server Administration
* Experience with Linux
* Writing software and tests using NodeJS, Python, or Golang (preferably Golang)
* Building and maintaining continuous delivery pipelines
* Managing capacity and performance problem determination by analyzing system metrics and logs
* Previous experience applying software engineering practices to hosting and managing large scale mission critical infrastructure.
* Understanding the latest techniques, practices, and technology from the industry, sharing these with team members, and applying them where appropriate.
* Experience planning for system problems by having a robust incident management practice.
* Continuously improving through retrospectives and post-incident investigations.
* Wicked sense of humor and outside interests, because all work and no play is boring
