Unique to our domain specialist Data Engineers is the ability to own a specific area within the broader data engineering community either in a technical capacity (e.g., real-time/batch/lambda data processing, machine learning, experimentation systems, application performance optimization, etc.) or an industry capacity (e.g., personalization systems, consumer marketing, retail/e-commerce, ad-tech, etc.). The Machine Learning domain specialist will partner with Facebook Research Scientists and ML Engineers to design and build the data foundations that will drive the creation and assessment of the next generation of Ads Personalization models. Data Engineer, Analytics (Machine Learning) Responsibilities

* Act as a subject matter expert for machine learning data engineering challenges including, 1) understanding real-time, online, and offline model training

* 2) capturing opportunity related to optimizing modeling and training within resource

* Actively participate in and stay informed on the latest industry and academic developments within machine learning

* Optimize pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to facilitate easier development of data artifacts

* Influence operational cross-functional efficiency by identifying issues causing delay and addressing them proactively

* Mentor team members by giving/receiving actionable feedback

* Collaborate with engineers, product managers and product analysts to understand data needs

* Build data expertise and own data quality for allocated areas of ownership

* Design, build and launch new data models and ETL processes in production

* Define and manage SLA for all data sets in allocated areas of ownership

Minimum Qualifications

* 4+ years experience in the data warehouse space

* 4+ years experience in custom ETL design, implementation and maintenance

* 4+ years experience with object-oriented programming languages

* 7+ years experience with schema design and dimensional data modeling

* 7+ years experience in writing SQL statements

* Recent experience building successful & scalable machine learning solutions to address key business challenges

* Experience analyzing data to identify deliverables, gaps and inconsistencies

* Experience managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal clients

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree in Technical Field, Computer Science or Mathematics

* Experience working with either a MapReduce or an MPP system

* Knowledge and practical application of Python

* Experience working autonomously in global teams

* Experience influencing product decisions with data

* Experience influencing senior leaders to define data strategy related to analytics and machine learning use cases

* Project experience with real-time machine learning use cases, as well as necessary trade-offs vs. offline/batch processing

* Domain expertise in modern machine learning techniques, ideally including at least neural networks, as well as classification and embeddings
