Job Description

The Facebook Reality Labs team is looking for an Electrical Engineer specializing in power & battery management circuit design to join a multi-disciplinary team that is developing systems that are used to enable immersive augmented reality experiences. You will own electrical design of power conversion and battery charge/discharge circuitry from prototype to production stages partnering with a cross disciplinary engineering team to ensure designs realize product specifications. You should have experience selecting and designing optimized regulator topologies to maximize conversion efficiency in addition to experience developing charge/discharge circuits optimized for different battery chemistries and pack configurations.

Electrical Engineer Responsibilities

* Own power circuit design, simulation, validation, and characterization ensuring compliance with product specifications.

* Develop & validate battery charge/discharge & management circuitry that meets pack specifications across environmental conditions.

* Specify, evaluate, and select key power path components. Develop relationships with technology vendors and partners impacting roadmaps and driving custom solutions.

* Generate design documentation, perform schematic capture, simulate power delivery networks pre & post layout, and direct power subsystem board layout.

* Optimize power conversion efficiency and work across engineering disciplines to minimize power consumption and battery discharge peaks.

* Characterize system power consumption, battery runtime, and battery charge/discharge curve compliance across environmental conditions.

* Support product development throughout concept, design, evaluation, production, and post-launch phases.

* Drive resolution of technical issues working with cross-functional engineering, verification, and production teams.

* Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

Minimum Qualifications

* 5+ years of experience developing electrical hardware systems along with a BS in Electrical or a related Engineering degree or equivalent experience.

* Experience with schematic design and PCB layout using Cadence Capture CIS and Allegro or equivalent EDA tools.

* Experience designing with DC/DC switching regulators and optimizing conversion efficiency.

* Experience with battery power management, battery charge circuits, and lithium ion batteries.

* Experience using oscilloscopes, network/power analyzers, e-loads, and other test equipment for system validation and troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with designing with multiple DC-DC power-conversion topologies such as buck, boost, linear, buck/boost & SEPIC and the benefits of different feedback control modes.

* Experience designing battery charge/discharge management circuits which meet pack requirements across environmental conditions.

* Experience with PDN simulation tools such as Sigrity or HyperLynx.

* Experience modelling and verifying system and subsystem power consumption and compliance with thermal budgets.

* Experience with thermal management and system mitigation strategies.

* Experience with multiple Lithium battery pack and cell technologies, and the effects of temperature, charge/discharge rate and cycle count.

* Experience understanding USB Power Delivery and how it applies to battery charging & discharge management.

* Experience with Linux power management capabilities and underlying SoC and system hardware dependencies.
