Job Summary:
The CNC Machine Shop Manager is primarily responsible for coordinating and developing production for the machining operations COE. This position will develop production strategies to achieve operational objectives for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly Key Performance Indicators. This position will also ensure that the company develops a robust production process to mitigate manufacturing risk across all assigned product lines. Provides direct, hands-on support in programming and overall management of CNC operations with direct daily interaction with Leadership from the Engineering, Quality, Production Planning, Purchasing and Sales departments.
A. General Job Duties:
1. Run a safe, injury/accident free workplace.
2. Responsible for daily management and leadership of all resources assigned. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to: Schedule adherence, productivity, personnel development, time and attendance, training and establishing/monitoring departmental goals.
3. Work independently and within a team while coordinating with other Departmental Leaders and/or Managers to achieve Daily/Weekly/Monthly goals and objectives.
4. Work closely with the inventory manager and team to perform analysis of MRO inventory and tooling while ensuring that the company is utilizing our inventory effectively.
5. Interprets company policies to workers, leads by example and enforces all Federal, State and local regulations.
6. Creates a departmental cross training matrix and mentors assigned personnel.
7. Deploys team members to both strategically and tactically engage in cross functional problem solving to improve production efficiencies and product quality.
B. Specific Job Duties:
1. Ensures the organization accomplishes Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost performance objectives. When misses occur, develops a credible recovery plan with team.
2. Reviewing daily customer demand, job set-up, preparation of job travelers & production schedules, management of production schedules and flow of work through shop.
3. Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other reporting on daily basis to drive performance in all assigned areas.
4. Champion and initiate Continuous Improvement (CI) projects to increase efficiency, productivity and machine utilization while reducing overall cost.
5. Identify new opportunities to impact business and operations goals positively. Manages these projects to rapid completion.
6. Direct and coordinate manufacturing activities based on policies, company objectives and programs spanning multiple manufacturing functions.
7. Determine performance and product quality owners and direct accountability for achievement of that performance.
8. Coordinate with Supply Chain for procurement or required tools and MRO, and planning delivery schedules to meet delivery schedules, quality standards while reducing overall lead time and cost.
9. Coordinate with Engineering and Quality Control to determine cause of rejected product and to resolve discrepancies in manufacture process.
10. Brief and communicate with customers, suppliers and corporate executives with high intensity and professionalism.
C. Other Job Duties:
1. Conducts performance appraisals and manages work performance of all subordinates.
2. Exercises final department recommendations regarding retention, separation, or changes in wages.
3. Keeps accurate records pertaining to all facets of operation.
4. Maintains the integrity of the information in the JDE ERP system.
5. Escalates irreconcilable problems to the attention of the appropriate plant management/HR.
6. Visit current tooling suppliers or potential suppliers as needed to discuss on-time delivery and to secure best contract pricing for CAM Fasteners.
7. Formulates and maintains highest standards of housekeeping (5S) in all areas assigned.
8. Reports and rectifies any actual or perceived EH&S problems within scope of responsibility.
9. Participates in continuous improvement events and implements plans and/or objectives.
4. Experience & Educational Requirements:
1. Bachelors degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a combination of appropriate related work experience and education/training.
2. Extensive experience with CNC equipment, programming, tooling and fixturing.
3. More than 10 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience and responsibility. Aerospace and/or Automotive experience preferred.
4. Proven track record of driving results in a high volume, high mix Machining environment.
5. Experience leading people and obtaining results through others, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Expert ability to read and interpret blueprints, methods of manufacturing, machine code, tabular data and other related technical documentation.

5. Proven Leadership in Fasteners, Forgings or Castings in the Aerospace or Automotive Industries.
6. Microsoft Office/Personal computer literate. Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills a plus.
