Serves as a liaison between the production facility and the R&D organization. Position is based onsite at the production facility, but is managed by the R&D group. Responsibilities may include making batch adjustments, investigating customer complaints, monitoring pilot and scale up batches, updating formulas for first run capability, and working with plant engineers to optimize batch processing.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Calculates raw material additions for in-process production batches needing adjustment.
Investigates and resolves issues with in-process production batches.
Investigates and resolves customer complaints; determines disposition for complaint material.
Monitors the production process for pilot and scale up batches of new formulations.
Monitors the production process for existing formulas as needed.
Monitors the Quality Control history of existing products and makes formula updates for First Run Capability as needed.
Maintains color standards for all product lines.
Conducts Management of Change reviews for raw materials that are new to the production facility.
Determines disposition and usage potential for various finished goods.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each.
Preferred:
Degree in Chemistry, Polymers or Coatings
2. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
1 Year of paint and coatings experience
Preferred:
2+ Years of paint and coatings experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.
May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
Work surfaces may include concrete.
Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
Must be able to operate a computer and communicate via the telephone
Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Applying intermediate professional chemistry principles and practices
Operating a variety of laboratory equipment;
Performing several professional formulating tasks;
Applying fundamental application methods and procedures;
Interpreting and applying department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations;
Communicating technical information;
Solving problems and recommending solutions;
Prioritizing daily project tasks;
Applying a general understanding of the paint manufacturing process;
PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Minitab, and other applicable applications;
Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction.
Basic understanding of Automotive coating technology
Basic understanding of Lean Six Sigma methodology for design and manufacturing environments
Travel Up to 10%
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each.
Must have 1 year of coatings experience.
Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
