Core part of our strategy is delivering My Cloud personal cloud devices that help customers store and enjoy their content. Millions of these devices are already in users homes and our roadmap calls for many more. These devices offer robust Linux-based system with features such as configuration interfaces, security, RAID and system updates.

As a software development lead, you will influence the direction and success of the Linux platform on these devices. The platform includes core Linux, user space, many custom-built daemons and libraries. You will responsible for ensuring platform components are architected with maintainability, security, testability and flexibility in mind. You will help with implementation and delivery of these components, including developing code as necessary.

This role can be in either our Milpitas or Irvine, CA office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Lead development of the My Cloud Linux based NAS OS
* Translate business requirements into technical requirements and architecture by working with product management team and leads from other teams
* Design various Linux daemons and other user-space components that work with open source software such as glibc, ffmpeg, mdadm etc.
* Communicate with cross-functional teams such as cloud, devops, middleware and clients
* Implement software components when necessary
* Deliver solutions on time with high quality
* Enforce best practices and coding standards on Device Platform team by conducting design and code reviews

REQUIRED:

* 12+ years of experience in developing embedded systems
* Expert-level expertise in any one of the popular programming languages such as C, C++, golang, Python
* Past experience in delivering robust, high-performance and secure solutions
* Strong computer science fundamentals such as operating systems, multi-threading, inter process communication (IPC), networking etc.
* Strong experience in architecting products with Open Source Software Integration.
* Experience in developing solutions that take security, analytics and automation testing into consideration
* Working knowledge of HTTP, Web apps and cloud
* Experience with arm & x86 hardware architectures and designing embedded systems with HDDs and SSDs is highly preferred
* Past experience collaborating with Taiwan-based System-on-ship (SoC) vendors to develop & sustain platform BSPs is a plus
* Knowledge of Linux Kernel and Linux-based OSes like Debian & Yocto
* Experience with RAID & filesystems like EXT4, NTFS, HFS+, SMB is a plus
* Experience in Docker framework internals & Linux Containers is a plus
