Experimental Radiation Oncology (ERO) is the laboratory-based research arm of the Radiation Oncology division. Our research encompasses the biology of tumor- and normal-tissue interactions with radiation and other agents used for cancer treatment.
The department also trains students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows and residents in the fundamentals of tumor biology, and provides leadership to an institution-wide program for postdoctoral fellows.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Administration/ Operations:
Personnel Management - Directs all facets of human resource management within the department including recruitment, selection, and performance evaluation of classified staff. As needs are identified, requests incremental positions using approved processes with well developed, thoughtful, data driven justifications. Establishes performance and productivity standards for classified staff. Coaches and counsels employees and, when required, implements the disciplinary process within institutional guidelines. Works with the chair/faculty (17 total, 8 T/TT) on departmental goals and initiatives. In consultation with the Department Chair, executes all personnel actions including hiring, merit increases, terminations, promotions and reclassifications.
Operations Management - Directs, designs, and implements systems and processes to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of service and product quality for internal and external customers. Develops and monitors internal controls that serve to maintain the integrity of the department and institution. Creates, maintains, and enforces departmental policies and procedures while ensuring that internal processes meet or exceed institutional guidelines as well as those of external regulatory agencies.
Physical Resource Management & Planning - Manages the department's physical resources including space, equipment and other property. Plans physical resource needs and manages physical relocations and renovations. Ensures accuracy of annual inventory processes. Conducts annual space survey, spanning approximately 45K sq. feet. May manage staff and/or operations in numerous physical locations. Manages the department's physical resources including space planning, inventory control, and property maintenance.
Faculty Lifecycle - Recruiting, Promotion/Tenure/ Appraisal, Separation, COI
inancial Management, Budgeting, Metrics and Reporting:
Works with Department Chair to prepare, justify, administer and monitor budgets for the department. Ensures timely and accurate expense and income tracking for E&G;, RFM, PRS, Startup, grant and/or philanthropic company centers, and chargeback cores. With the grants team, oversees approximately $10MM in direct funding. Consistently monitors monthly balances and reconciles assigned accounts. Provides required budgetary and financial reports. Assists in the decision-making, planning and forecasting of all financial and budgetary matters.
Manages the preparation and distribution of data and reports for faculty recognition programs, performance awards, and Anderson Award program and employee merits. Distributes and provides documents and reports to the Chair to support the annual faculty appraisal process.
In conjunction with the Department Chair, prepare, justify, administer and monitor budgets for the department according to institutional guidelines. Monitors expenditures throughout the year to ensure they are within the authorized budget. Participates in the regents, capital equipment, and revenue and expense annual budget process.
Provides financial, operational, audit/compliance and statistical reports to the Chair, faculty, and related staff. Analyzes metrics and reports and provides recommendations for strategic planning and efficient operations. Serves as main point of contact for requests for data or metrics related to annual reports and other programs.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospital/Healthcare Administration, or related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in Business, Hospital/Healthcare Administration, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Five years of demonstrated progressive and responsible health care or business management experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: High performer with research grant financial experience. Also, personnel management and operations management experience in healthcare setting.
