Entry Level Software Engineer
General Motors is looking for innovative Entry Level Software Engineers to help us build state-of-the-art platforms. This rotational opportunity is an early career development initiative for new hires, designed to help them build foundational skills, gain greater exposure, and better understand our business. This program requires a two-year commitment and consists of four 6-month assignments developing software within teams such as cloud connected infotainment, autonomous vehicle, and electric vehicle. Upon completion of the program, participants are matched to opportunities based on interest and business needs.
In this entry level rotational opportunity, you will help design, develop and test software, algorithms, and embedded systems. This software will run throughout our vehicle ecosystem so you will be doing hands on work that can directly affect customers. Your work could be driving around on roads soon! You will also have a chance to develop interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization.
Primary responsibilities:
* Develop software that, depending on assignment, may run on vehicle controllers, mobile phones, Android-based infotainment systems, or cloud infrastructure
* Convert/interpret algorithms and other required documents into software code
* Design, develop and test feature behavior and interaction between hardware and software
* Develop test cases aligned with requirements in manual and automated test environments
* Perform data analysis and research to assess vehicle feature feasibility

Qualifications:
* Currently pursuing a bachelors degree or masters degree in the following fields of study at time of application: Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Controls Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics
* Must be graduating between October 2020 and June 2021
* ABET accredited program preferred
* Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
* Demonstrated coding efficiency, speed & quality
Desired Skills:
* Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, etc.
* Efficient use of MATLAB/Simulink
* Demonstrated algorithm generation and connection to the physical requirements
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of Software and/or Controls Engineering Principles
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill sophisticated subjects for a wider audience
* Emerging partnership and teamwork skills plus ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a rapidly moving environment
* High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed
* Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust
* Deliver new and creative solutions to complex problems
