Primary Purpose:
Supervises the claim and grievance handling process and gives guidance to labor relations officers and field personnel on the accurate interpretation of rules and agreements for the crafts and territories that fall under the jurisdiction of the position, with the goal of minimum cost to the Carrier, consistent with proper application of the agreements.
Principal Duties:
Defends and promotes the Carrier's position with respect to such claims and grievances through guiding and editing the preparation of well written submissions and effective oral argument to labor boards.
Maintains current and thorough knowledge of relevant operations at the local level.
Provides guidance on application of current agreements and implementation of desired labor changes.
Negotiates and drafts changes in existing collective bargaining agreements.
Supervises Labor Relations Officers.
Maintains effective relationships with union officials, field personnel and the arbitral community.
