Job Description

Summary

* Providescontinuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
* Firstline of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at riskbehaviors.
* Summonsthe nursing staff if the patient requires assistance by communication device orSTAT Alert Alarm (if appropriate)
* Knowledgeableand supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and relatedhospital policies.

Key Responsibilities

* Demonstratesunderstanding and proficiency of the use of the Video Monitoring (VM) software.
* Maintainsvisual observation at all times.
* Verballyredirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room.
* Immediatelysummons the nursing staff it the patient requires assistance.
* Demonstratesthe knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to thispatent population based on the patients individualized treatment plan asdelegated by the RN.
* Participatesin hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients whenarriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
* Providespatient with explanations as necessary, but does not consul or provideopinions.
* Demonstratesbehaviors in line with Service Excellence.
* Seekshelp or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat tothemselves or others.
* Participatesin a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
* Assurespatient environment safety.
* Seeksassistant with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reportsfindings to RN.
* Demonstratessafe work practices and attitudes, follow safety rules, works to prevent unsafeconditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmentsafety programs.

Expectationwhile on Duty

* Dedicatedattention to observing patients with no outside distractions (no answering ofphones unless calls to monitor station, etc.)
* Stayingconnect with audio by never taking off the headset.
* Neverleave monitor station unattended. If you need to step away, call for backupfirst.
* Nofood or drink in patient care areas.
* Keepyour workplace clean and tidy.
* Nocell phone use in patient care areas.
* Maintainrequired documentation.
