Job Description

The Senior Contract Underwriting Officer provides underwriting and product line leadership for an assigned region supporting the contract team. Responsible for all underwriting results and activities within the region. Monitors underwriting quality and adherence to underwriting guidelines. Manages profitability, risk mitigation, growth strategies, metrics for specific accounts and overall account portfolio. Manages the regional home office underwriting staff including performance and development. Works with Chief Underwriting Officer and other Senior Contract Underwriting Officers to establish and implement underwriting policies and procedures for the unit and ensure compliance for the assigned Region. Maintains underwriting authority as delegated by the Chief Underwriting Officer.

Responsibilities:

* Through the regional home office underwriting staff, works with the regional field underwriting staff to manage and grow a profitable contract book of business.
* Executes long-term strategy set by the Chief Underwriting Officer in the assigned Region and uses analytical tools to review, monitor, and adjust the account portfolio, underwriting guidelines, and overall strategy as needed.
* Responsible for the underwriting decisions throughout the region.
* Responsible for any recommendations to the Chief Underwriting Officer if above his/her authority.
* Hires, develops, and retains a highly qualified home office underwriting team for the assigned region. Facilitates the education and development of the regional home office underwriting staff along with the field underwriting organization to ensure and maintain a high level of competence in dealing with complex accounts and issues.
* Creates and drives a culture of commitment to success, continuous improvement, enthusiasm, collaborative problem solving, and profitable partnering with strategic business clients.
* Under the direction of the CUO, assists in developing, monitoring, and maintaining underwriting guidelines to ensure compliance.
* Collaborates with the Regional Vice President and contract product line managers in the assigned region to implement an effective business development plan and account portfolio management plan for the region.
* Develops and cultivates, directly or indirectly, relationships with agents and national brokers active in soliciting and placing contract surety business. Collaborates with Claims staff to evaluate and/or resolve claim issues expeditiously and effectively, and if appropriate, takes immediate action to restrict credit on affected account.
