Department Summary
Gas Compression Project Management is an organization within the Enterprise Project Management business segment and is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of projects in Consumers Energy gas compression stations.
Job Description/Responsibilities
This position will oversee, coordinate, perform and track the planning, implementing, quality control, and status reporting on a given project. This position manages the project team, which typically consists of matrixed roles from all the areas of the organization. The EPC Project Manager is responsible for working with stakeholders to define the project scope; preparing the project schedule, and updating that schedule as it evolves; proposing the project budget, and then managing the project cost and schedule; making sure the project team has the supplies and human resources necessary to get the project done on time and on budget; identifying and minimizing potential risks to the project timeline and budget; making sure that all project team members understand what their responsibilities are; communicating the project's progression to management; and ensuring the quality of the team's work and any supplies or materials used by the team.
The Project Manager will:
* Plan and manage compressor station projects of varying complexity, consisting of single year and multi-year projects in natural gas compressor stations with budget amounts less than $500,000 to over $5 million.
* Prepare Project Charter documents, Project Management Plans, Scoping Documents, Risk Registers, and other standardized project management deliverables through the Consumers Energy Project Lifecycle Processes.
* Organize, lead, and document Project team meetings to coordinate, update, and hold team members accountable for project responsibilities
* Ensure project results contribute positive business value in support of meeting Gas T&D department goals.
* Meet agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality objectives
* Develop project schedules with EPM Project Scheduling group in Primavera 6. The Project Manager must develop schedule concepts, constraints, items in appropriate level of detail, track schedule process, update items with project Scheduler, and communicate schedule to project team. The Project Manager is not required to work directly within Primavera 6 that function is accomplished by the Project Scheduler (separate function).
* Provide clear and accurate communications to project stakeholders
* Develop and maintain project plans that provide timely deliverables to achieve project objectives
* Identify initial risks, issues and constraints impacting project execution
* Work collaboratively with other functional areas in the development of project tasks and deliverables ensuring the successful execution of projects
* Manage multiple projects at various stages of development concurrently
* Facilitate the flow of work during a project to ensure that it conforms to the project plan covering forecasting, scoping, planning, scheduling, execution and closeout
* Develop and perform presentations for the Consumers Energy leadership team
* Validate financial forecasts and provides on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures
* Provide ethical leadership within the Consumers Energy 3rd Party Code of Conduct
* Assist in the development of performance metrics and track performance of each project.
* Identify and recommend new processes, techniques and standards that drive performance and process improvement.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university.
* 7 or more years applied engineering or equivalent working experience; including project management experience. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred. If not certified, employee must obtain certification within 3 years of entering the job family.

* Experience with scheduling software such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
Essential Functions
Duties and reporting structure will fluctuate between projects. Individual possesses the skills to lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. Individuals should exemplify safe work practices and follow the companys compliance standards. Provide project management services with accuracy, integrating all applicable governmental and company laws, standards and procedures on time and under budget. Use computer assisted project management software to prepare project management documents and presentations. Understand and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects. Become familiar with plans, specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately. Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public. Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders. Attend internal and external meetings. Provide all project management services in a legal and ethical manner. Resolve all customer complaints in a timely manner. Serve as onsite project representative. Review operating and construction sites to monitor progress. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 60% of time spent in the office and 40% at compressor station locations, which may require overnight stays. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines. Individuals must have a valid drivers license.
This position will likely be headquartered at the Jackson-Parnall complex office location, but other options may be considered if the successful candidates request matches department project locations. The successful candidate will be required to routinely travel to Project Sites where work is in the planning or execution phases (all Consumers Energy facilities are located in the lower peninsula of Michigan). Work a flexible schedule that supports the demands and needs of the Projects.
